Network - what do we think about the ethical problems with "for-profit" universities? I am trying to find the objective problem with them, other than that excess funding is not ALWAYS re-distributed into educational quality. One particular example of this that I have found is that for-profit colleges oftentimes do not have the same library resources that public or private non-profit universities have (databases, mostly). It seems like certain people want to villainize this sector of higher education without much merit to the arguments. Maybe I am wrong - however, I would love to discuss this with anyone who has more information than I.

Empowering Change: How the Madhi Foundation is Using Surveys to Improve Literacy and Numeracy in India I recently came across an inspiring story about the Madhi Foundation, a non-profit organization working to improve literacy and numeracy skills among children in India. What struck me most was their innovative approach to data collection and analysis using QuestionPro survey software. By leveraging QuestionPro's user-friendly platform, the Madhi Foundation was able to significantly reduce the time and effort spent on data collection and analysis. This allowed them to focus their resources on what matters most: delivering impactful educational programs to children in need. The ability to gather and analyze data efficiently is crucial for any organization working in the social impact space. Madhi Foundation's success story is a testament to the power of technology in empowering positive change. Has your organization used surveys to achieve its social impact goals? Share your experience in the comments below! #education #literacy #numeracy #nonprofit #MadhiFoundation #QuestionPro #survey #dataanalysis #socialimpact

I am a non-profit entity. I don't do ads or commercials on any of my media platforms. My goal is to provide teachers and parents with the knowledge and pedagogical tools they need to enable their children to reach their full literacy potential. The video below is a recording of a recent educational webinar examining the research behind LETRS professional development. LETRS is published by Lexia, which is owned by Cambium Learning. Don't let the pictures of happy smiling children on their website fool you. It is abundantly clear that they are much more interested in $ than in children. Lexia has blocked the promotion of this video on YouTube. If you can't win the argument in an academic setting, you bully, threaten, and silence those who disagree. It is sad that this type of suppression by those with money and influence has become normalized. Please push back against the influence of Cambium Learning and Lexia. Send the video below to people you know. If you have access to a media platform, please consider posting it. https://lnkd.in/gCrNuSbg We must continue to call out the blatant hypocrisy of the profiteers and their minions.

The current publishing system is broken! ⛓️💥 The high costs of traditional publishing are becoming harder to manage. Many in the research community want to 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝘆 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀. Diamond #OpenAccess is a novel approach that allows researchers to publish their work without charging fees to either authors or readers. This model focuses on the quality of the research, and not on the authors’ funding ability. But, how will we pay for this new model? Will it really be cheaper? And how can we make non-profit journals respected like big commercial ones? Check out today's explainer for: - Insights on the current state of publishing, - The benefits of diamond open access, - The work needed to make this change happen! This recent study by Sible Andringa, maria mos, Catherine van Beuningen, Paz González, Jos Hornikx, and Rasmus Steinkrauss provides a deep dive into the issues with current open access models and why diamond open access is the best case scenario for scientists. Student agency is often misunderstood. Does it mean planning the prom? Yes. Raising money for charity? Yes. But is that the point? No. Agency for students is something that empowers and gives rise to confidence in their lives, not just to a heavily scaffolded project. Student agency is present when students drive the agenda. But what does that look like? They push themselves to develop They actively seek asssitance They push and support their peers They do things because they benefit beyond credit or a grade bump. Their work is individually their own. How do you engender agency in students? The same way you do in any organisation: with trust. The students have to trust in their teachers to be able to push themselves and know they have support, and most importantly we teachers need to push ourselves to trust in our students: I guarantee they will always surprise you. Post inspired by Colin Powell’s response to the question: what is most vital in leadership? Trust

Very unusually, no one has yet applied for the completely funded scholarship place on our Psychological Safety in Education workshops. ✨ We offer one *free* scholarship space on all our workshops to make them more accessible and diversify the group of people we can include in our training. We have to rationalise how we allocate this space, so we prioritise those who are: ❔ Living and working in a lower income country ❔A member of a typically disadvantaged or underrepresented group ❔Applying the learning to non-profit and charitable (including aid) work ❔Unable to realistically access the funds required to pay for the unwaged/lower income strand So, if you'd like to join our education workshops (details linked in the comments), learning how to build psychological safety and you fit one or more of the above criteria (we don't ask for proof - this is on a trust basis!), drop me a message on LinkedIn or send me an email: jade@psychsafety.com 😊 Psychological Safety by Iterum
