There’s a new kid on the block. We’ve officially opened the FMX Futures Exchange, the newest addition to our FMX offering. The exchange will start by trading SOFR futures, adding U.S. treasury futures to the mix in 2025. Congratulations Marex! The FMX Futures Exchange - LCH partnership looks really interesting. According to BGC Group's last earnings call, 85% of IR swaps & 0% IR futures competes with CME Group's 15% of IR swaps & 100% of IR futures. Short term, the overall market will likely grow because of incentive payments to market makers / liquidity providers and arbitrage opportunities between the existing market. Not sure what the longterm outcome is. Especially in futures markets, liquidity is only on one market, especially in the same jurisdiction. I like the competition because it gives customers a choice for a preferred solution and brings innovation to the US treasuries trading community.
