I am excited to announce our recent publication in Physica Scripta, a collaborative effort with Drs. Andrew Wang, Jian-Ping Wang, Changzhi Li, Jenifer Gomez Pastora, and Rui He. Link to the paper: https://lnkd.in/gC2NxJEk In this study, we explored a critical aspect of Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) systems: the size uniformity of the magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) tracer. Traditionally, models and experiments assume that all tracers are of uniform size. However, this assumption overlooks a key reality: the size of MNP tracers follows a lognormal distribution. Our research addresses this gap by evaluating the impact of MNP tracer size distribution on MPI applications. We employed a stochastic Langevin function coupled with Brownian-Néel relaxation models to simulate the dynamic magnetization responses of MNP tracers. Using experimentally observed sizes and distributions, we varied the size uniformity to investigate how tracers with identical average sizes but different size distributions influence MPI signal strength and imaging resolution. Excited to share our latest research! Our new publication, "Nanoscale dynamics of Dynamin 1 helices reveals squeeze-twist deformation mode critical for membrane fission", is now available in PNAS! In this work, we explored membrane deformations modes produced by Dyn1 at the nanoscale using high-speed atomic force microscopy (HS-AFM). This paper is the culmination of a significant part of my PhD journey, and I’m incredibly grateful for the collaboration and support of my co-authors and mentors who made this possible. Euan McLeod, Associate Professor at the University of Arizona and a Photonics100 honoree, will talk at this year’s Photonics West about using photonic tweezers and 3D nanofabrication to enable photonic materials and devices that are currently infeasible, including photonic metamaterials, ultra-compact imaging devices, and biosensors. He told Electro Optics more about his work applies to biomedical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, chemical sensing, and the design and fabrication of novel nanophotonic imaging devices during the run-up to the Photonics100. I've done hundreds of XRM scans of various plant specimens, but I never cease to be amazed by what we can see and study with this unique imaging technology.
