Qu'est-ce qui ne va pas avec cette image ? or : What’s wrong with this picture - #2 ? Nothing, really. The photo was taken last summer in a small grocery store in Nantes, France. I was just getting some milk or cream for my morning (instant) coffee. Now I wish I also looked for the #refrigerated and #plantbased alternatives, but at the time that didn’t seem to be of interest. The link to “What’s wrong with this picture” post #1 aka the original “provocation” for this discussion is in the first comment. If you miss the 20 refrigerated display cases from the previous image: Yes, pity the poor French. Such inferior taste bud sensitivity – oblivious to the magical benefits of perpetual refrigeration – we need to be worried about the quality of their cuisine :). But: if most of the world’s #dairy is broadly available in a #shelfstable format and displayed at #ambient temperatures, and almost all of the #plantbased #dairyalternatives in the U.S. are chilled/refrigerated throughout their #lifecycle – then, which is the “lesser evil”? And how does an omnivorous proponent of reduction of production and consumption of #animalbased proteins keep the faith? Sacre Bleu! We need some data. Shelf-stability = #sustainability
