Learnings from a trip to wine country:
Grapevines, just like people, build character over the years. They each have unique journeys that depend on individual circumstances. They have good years and others that are not as strong. They all have growth potential and mold and change along the way.
They have to weather some storms but their roots and foundations become stronger because of it.
At the end of the day, their character and what they contribute is what matters and is what people remember.
Leaders are not so different. How will you be remembered?

Another fantastic #motherson#leadership Program Americas wrapped up in #sanluispotosi last month and I can’t help but feel inspired by this group.
In only a few days, our class dove deep into such a wide variety of topics that let each of us contribute insight from our diverse career paths.
Michael K. Simpson led us through another epic journey with #franklincovey and #speedoftrust.
I am truly #proudtobepartof this team, this company, this #family.
I heard this great leadership comment the other day – I’m honest because I’m invested. I think about my Hall of Fame boss, Janice Payton, who was the queen at both. Having honest and direct conversations with our teams is part of being a leader. Sometimes you’re lucky enough to have a team member like Julie Greene, CVA who respectfully and smartly push back on you and help guide you to the best decision for the group. Let’s all be a little more honest and invested. #leadHrship.
Lessons from Oprah Winfrey: Authenticity Rules
Oprah Winfrey’s rise as a media mogul is rooted in authenticity. By connecting deeply with her audience, she created trust and built an empire. Her focus on purpose over profit is a masterclass in leading with heart.
How do you ensure authenticity in your leadership?

Grateful for the engaging virtual speaking event with Comerica Bank. Thank you so much for invite me to speak at event Tricia Dublin.
I really enjoyed the questions from both women and their allies.
In particular, I enjoyed the question from the executive event sponsor Dharmesh Patel about how he can champion women in the company. This prompted a great conversation in particular about “resisting the fix.” I have observed both men and women leaders invertedly disempower women by jumping in to take over when they face challenges:
Women: We put on our capes and want to play superhero.--- “Don’t worry, I will do that for you.”
Men: Jump straight from listening to action and problem solving. ---“Well, have you tried…..”
Both of these are well intentioned but have the unintended consequences of frustrating employees.
The solution? Clarify what the employee really wants and needs from their manager. After 20-years of marriage, my husband and I have negotiated the “Is this a listening or solutioning conversation?” question, so we respect each other’s needs. (Feel free to steal it and use something like this with your own relationships both at work and home. 😊)
