A Michelin Star could be a blessing, but it could also be the death of a restaurant. Since the Michelin Guide first arrived in Hong Kong in 2009, over a quarter of its Michelin-starred restaurants have closed, highlighting the significant challenges of maintaining such a prestigious accolade. Out of 163 restaurants awarded one, two, or three stars, 41 have shut their doors, affected by protests, the COVID pandemic, and what has been termed the "Michelin kiss of death." This pattern mirrors a similar trend in New York, where 40% of Michelin-starred restaurants awarded between 2005 and 2014 had closed by 2019, according to a study in the Strategic Management Journal. The closures of renowned Hong Kong establishments like Aaharn, Rech by Alain Ducasse, and Écriture reflect the intense financial pressures that Michelin recognition can bring, which often result in higher expectations from customers and operational strain on restaurateurs. Earning a Michelin star is a dream for many restaurateurs, but a recent study suggests that not all accolades benefit business. The analysis highlights a paradox where some Michelin-starred restaurants have shuttered despite their prestigious recognition. 🌟🔒 The pressure to maintain high standards and the increased operational costs associated with Michelin accolades sometimes outweigh the benefits. What strategies might help establishments leverage such honours while maintaining their long-term viability? https://lnkd.in/g9yKhUZB #RestaurantIndustry #BusinessStrategy #MichelinStar #HospitalityManagement

#WhatILoveAboutOrlando Victoria & Albert’s is the sort of place where reservations need to be made weeks in advance. You won’t get in without a dinner jacket, and the restaurant's 6 or more courses from their modern American/French-inspired menu (with wine pairing) will probably set you back the price of a couple of tickets into the park for the day. Orlando is not yet on the Michelin team’s radar, but Victoria & Albert’s has long been recognized as one of Florida’s best restaurants, having been awarded the prestigious AAA Five Diamond award consistently since 2000. #AckleyPlatinumGroup #RealEstateInvestment #OrlandoNewHomes #investmentproperty #InvestinOrlando #LuxuryRealEstate #AckleyPlatinumGroupGuxury

Michelin has officially released its inaugural Texas guide. In total, 123 recognitions were designated across the state. Dallas-Fort Worth received a total of 29 recognitions across all categories, with chef Tatsuya Sekiguchi’s Tatsu Dallas being the metro’s only restaurant to receive a coveted star review. Austin saw the largest total of awards at 49 recognitions. No restaurant in Texas received a 2-Star or 3-Star review. In total, 28 restaurants in D-FW scored a Michelin star, Bib Gourmand or Recommended distinction in the guide. The Uptown/Oak Lawn office submarket performed best among submarkets, with eight restaurants receiving recognition within its boundaries. Across Texas, barbeque saw the highest number of cumulative recognitions, followed by Modern American, then Japanese. Four barbecue restaurants received star reviews. This represents the first time in Michelin Guide’s history that a barbecue restaurant received a one-star review. Restaurants that received one Michelin star have historically reported seeing an 18-20% increase in business, while also acknowledging pressure to invest in décor and service to maintain new standards. #michelin #jll #dfw #dallas #houston #austin #fortworth #sanantonio #retail
