Myth: Washing chicken or other poultry before cooking removes bacteria. Reality check: It turns out that rinsing poultry might be doing more harm than good 🚫 Washing raw poultry can actually spread dangerous bacteria like Salmonella to your kitchen surfaces, increasing the risk of cross-contamination. So, what's the real deal? Cooking poultry to the proper internal temperature of 74°C (165°F) is your best bet for killing pathogens and ensuring it's safe to eat. Use a calibrated food thermometer to make sure lurking nasties are dead. Say goodbye to the rinse routine and hello to safe, delicious meals 🙌 #FoodSafety #FoodCulture #SafeCheckTraining #FoodSafetyMatters #FoodService #FoodSafetyTraining #FoodSafetyCulture #FoodServiceIndustry

Recommendations on eating a variety of fish, insects and animal source foods🤗 ✅Avoid ultra-processed meat like polony, bacon, harm, sausages and hot dogs. ✅Avoid charring meat while cooking as high temperature cooking like grilling can form carcinogenic (cancer-causing) compounds in the meat. ✅If red meat such as beef, goat and lamb is eaten, cut consumption down to 2 servings a week. ✅Eat fish including oily and small fish eaten with bones, as often as possible per week. ✅Choose insects, white meat like poultry, rabbits, mice or eggs as healthier options instead of red meats. #eathealthy #eathealthylivehealthy #eathealthyfood

💡 Did you know❓ On average, cases of foodborne illnesses increase by 20% during the festive season. This rise is mainly linked to the consumption of “high-risk” products such as raw fish and meats, seafood, and preparations containing raw eggs. 🎄✨ It’s already Christmas in the food industry ! 🍽️🎅 The festive period is also a critical time to meet the growing demand for end-of-year favourites: ice-cream logs, foie gras, smoked salmon, and so much more. However, this surge in production poses an additional risk for the growth of pathogenic bacteria like #Listeria. At Loop Dee Science, we’re here to support you and help ensure a safe festive season! 🎉 The LoopiX method, combined with our pathogen detection kits, allows for production environment testing in just 1 hour and 30 minutes. The ideal solution for maintaining a healthy production environment during this critical period. 👉 Safety and peace of mind under the tree - that’s our gift to you ! 🎁 And you, what are your best practices for keeping the magic of Christmas alive in your production facilities ? This post is inspired by Doctor Okeoghene Oghenekaro. So here's the gist: One day in the hostel, we were studying for exams and planned to buy suya in the evening and cook jollof rice with it. When we got to the suya spot, we asked how much it was per stick. He mentioned the price, and we asked him to package it. He said we should wait a little to let him reheat it. We agreed, and while watching, he placed the meat sticks on charcoal and was busy rubbing his palms on the meat to check if it was hot 🙄. After some time, he brought out a nylon bag and reached for an old newspaper to wrap our meat. With our knowledge of food hygiene, we knew we were in for it🤣🤣🤣. He then put it in the nylon bag 😁. It was a silent walk back to the hostel, trying to process everything that happened and thinking of what to do next. When we broke the news to the girls, they had a good laugh 🤣. Hmmm, that day, we cooked the living hell out of that suya before we managed to eat it 😁. The following day, as we passed that suya spot, I heard my friend echo "salmonella," and I replied "E. coli" 😂😂. NB: While the use of old newspapers or discarded exam papers to wrap food items like meat, fries, and other street foods is cost-effective, it poses several hygiene and health risks. Those papers can harbor bacteria and other pathogens picked up from various environments where they were stored or discarded. When used to wrap food, these pathogens can transfer to the food, increasing the risk of foodborne illnesses. #drbukangalibanbela #thebanbelas #veterinarian #publichealth #onehealth #foodhygiene #foodsafetyandhygiene #streetfood #foodborneillness

Keep food-borne illnesses off your guest list with these four simple rules: https://lnkd.in/gAzfQKfq CLEAN Wash your hands before and after touching food for a minimum of 20 seconds - that's "Happy Birthday" twice, or the chorus of "Jolene" once. Rinse all your fruits and veggies, but not your meats or poultry. The latter can cause bacteria to spread throughout your kitchen! Pro-tip: Always rinse off the top of your cans before opening to avoid contamination. SEPARATE Use different cutting boards for meat, poultry, seafood, and veggies. Use separate dishes and utensils for raw and cooked foods. COOK Roasts and chops to a minimum of 145°; ground meats to 160°; poultry to 165°. Don't trust color or texture - always use a food thermometer! CHILL Your fridge should be kept at 40° and your freezer at 0°. Never thaw your meat on the counter or sink! Thaw in the fridge, in a bowl of water, or use the microwave. Always store marinating meats in the fridge until you're ready to use them. #HappyThanksgiving #foodsafety
