CONCRETE INTERESTING FACT FOR THURSDAY, OCT 10, 2024 Sawdust in concrete ?? Yes ! Sawdust can be used as an additive to concrete. Sawdust can be used as a filler or a partial replacement for sand in concrete resulting in a "Sawdust Concrete" or " Lightweight Concrete". This technique is not famous for structural strength but its more commonly used in projects where reduced weight or improved insulation is prioritized over maximum compressive strength. Turning Concrete into a CO₂ Supersink CARBOSANDS is a research project aimed at transforming concrete into a CO2 storage medium. Concrete, a mixture of cement and construction sand, is widely used in the construction industry. The innovative concept behind CARBOSANDS is to replace the sand component while leaving the cement unchanged. This sand substitute, named CARBOSANDS, is a CO2-negative fine aggregate composed of pure carbon. It is non-toxic and remains stable over millennia. CARBOSANDS shares the same physical properties as conventional mineral construction sand, making it a potential full replacement for the latter.
