⏰ Just one week left to apply to People and Place 2025! ⏰ Are you working on a project in your neighbourhood to ensure... 🏘️ facilities, land and buildings are used and/or owned by local people 📢 local people have a say or can act in how their neighbourhood is being transformed 🧱 local people can gain access to resources such as greener energy, materials or finance so they can live more sustainably and affordably …if so, Footwork’s programme of support may be just what you need People and Place, in the words of programme peers 👇 Reimagining Hillsborough, RivelinCo Based in Hillsborough, People and Place 2024 peers, Emily and Linda are creating a 'neighbourhood arts centre without walls' from their new space on the high street 🗣️ “The mentoring has been a game-changer for us. It's not something we would have been able to afford access to, and [our mentor] is such a good fit. Starting these conversations has inspired quite a radical shift to our programming and the way we work, and with that we are able to more confidently approach funders for the money we need to make it happen.” The Home Makers Project, Yodomo Based in Hackney, People and Place 2023 peer, Sophie is supporting low income families to insulate their homes and reduce household heating costs by providing unused textiles and engaging her community in the making and mending movement 🗣️ “When you're moving at a hundred miles an hour you sometimes forget about strategic thinking and just fire-fight the 'doing' - and this programme really gave me the chance to stop and really think.” 🔗 To find out more visit https://lnkd.in/e9dhJxZh Applications close a week today on Monday 9th September at 11:59pm.

I appreciate Wholespire sharing this story of a successful mini-grant project, but clearly outlining the challenges and bumps along the way. Implementation rarely goes as planned, and rural communities can face additional challenges. But also are the most creative. https://lnkd.in/e6EaxQ4s

The LAST day of a #sharednarrative for #Plymouth!!! We're going to end on the contributions that POP wants to make, as a community and grassroots champion and system convener. As a grassroots champion our aim is to support a thriving and connected grassroots sector (building the environment for just, fairer and greener futures in Plymouth). * Relevant and meaningful support and capacity building that can help people respond to present needs and build capacities for the future. * Support and learning that spreads at different layers, e.g. applying individual skills training into practice to support groups, or to share our own learning with others and vice versa. * A funding culture for the grassroots that can appropriately resource the early stage and informal collectives. * 'The science and art of networks' becomes better communicated and understood. * Enabling multi-sector and collaborative networks in Plymouth and which can be sustained according to their value. As we move into a system convening role our aim is that Plymouth is able to demonstrate more just, fairer and greener approaches to Foundational Economies. * That POP can deploy its strengths and assets to meaningfully support Nudge in their leadership of the Stonehouse Demonstrator * There is better understanding in the system that certain voices aren't being heard and they are hugely valuable. * Statutory sector becomes better at listening, and the grassroots more active in decisions (not an ‘add on’). * Sector siloes are bridged and our systems in Plymouth are led through collaboration and self-awareness. * Improved capabilities of the health and statutory sectors in co-production, person centred work and cross-sector connection. * Community research becoming a meaningful methodology for citizen listening in Plymouth. * Better understanding across sectors in Plymouth of the role of power and relationships and ways of working together so that we can improve outcomes for people. Michigan Main Street (MMS) is focused on building strong places that attract people, investment, and economic growth. The place-based approach to downtown revitalization encourages local community members to invest in their downtown district by volunteering, supporting downtown businesses, preserving historic resources, and promoting downtown as the heart of the community. #MMS documents self-reported data and highlights from each of its local communities to compile annual reports demonstrating the impact of Main Street programming both at the local level and statewide. Main Street communities across the state totaled $17,485,873 in private investment from 2022-2023. That brings the total amount of private investment in #MiMainStreet communities to $424,613,279 since the program's inception in 2003. Over 400 volunteers from around the world left their homes, families, and routines to dedicate themselves to a project far greater than themselves. The Mellon Educate UK Building Blitz is a powerful reminder that true change starts with action. By stepping into communities, working shoulder to shoulder, and directly contributing to a cause, we are reminded of our collective capacity to make a difference. The lessons from this experience extend far beyond the building sites. The initiative challenges us all to consider: what are we building, and how can we align our efforts to meet the needs of others? It reinforces the idea that transformative work, whether in communities or in any field, is most impactful when rooted in empathy and driven by purpose. The Building Blitz demonstrates that when we act with intention, the ripple effects can inspire change far into the future. Philadelphia's Zero Fare pilot program, launched in August 2023, provides 25,000 Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) Key cards for unlimited free rides to low-income residents, addressing transportation barriers and poverty. Funded at $62 million until June 2025, this initiative uniquely streamlines access through automatic enrollment and partnerships with community organizations, ensuring inclusivity. With a 50% adoption rate and over 1.8 million trips logged, the program is showing significant benefits for the community. The Zero Fare program not only improves mobility for low-income residents but also supports SEPTA by boosting ridership. Extensive outreach and education efforts ensure participants understand and use their benefits, with unused cards being reallocated. The city hopes to secure more funding to expand the program, creating a cycle of increased ridership. As an organization to equitably advancing shared mobility, SUMC commends Philadelphia's commitment to equitable and sustainable transportation for urban mobility.
