Check out this interview by our Executive Director!
In March 2023, the White House announced permanent protections under the Antiquities Act for Avi Kwa Ame National Monument. This became Nevada’s 4th national monument and was our 4th stop on the #M4MRoadTrip. Covering over 500,000 acres, this designation protects land that is sacred to 12 tribes, is home to rare and threatened species, helps drive economic vitality in neighboring communities, and provides countless opportunities for outdoor recreation. Over the last two years, The Conservation Alliance has helped to fund the work of Monumental Shift, a network of ethnically and racially diverse groups working to transform historical inequities through place-based conservation. Avi Kwa Ame offers an example for how that can happen and we’re still celebrating its designation. Learn more about the campaign and each of the monuments at mobilizingformonuments.com. 🎥: Flickr 🛻: Rivian 🗣: Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project

Are you involved in marine conservation, or work in the marine environment? 🌊 We’d value your input on our draft Marine Conservation Advice Packages for two new Marine Protected Areas in English waters. These are: 🐟 Wyre Lune Marine Conservation Zone – situated in Morecambe Bay off the Lancashire coast and provides critical habitat for smelt, a rare migratory fish once common in our waters. 🦈Orford Inshore Marine Conservation Zone – located 14km off the Suffolk coast and includes subtidal mixed sediments. These provide an important nursery and spawning area for many fish species including sand eels, and several shark species, foraging seabirds and harbour porpoise. Marine Conservation Zones protect typical, rare or declining habitats and species found in our seas. Together with other types of Marine Protected Areas they contribute to the National Site Network. 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝘂𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗞𝗲𝗽’𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 Director of Marine Conservation Cambodia, Paul Ferber tells the story of his team's dedication over the past 11 years to restoring and protecting the Kep marine management area, which now spans over 2000 hectares of regrown seagrass. The transformation of the area's water quality, the increase in fish and marine resources, and the revival of habitats, leading to a return of Halophila ovalis, also known as Dugong Grass, are all attributed to the exceptional conservation efforts of Marine Conservation Cambodia. Classified as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Dugongs are the only herbivorous marine mammals in the world. They feed on seagrass and play an important role in coastal marine ecosystems.
