Given Adrian Newey's recent move from Red Bull Racing to Aston Martin, there is never a more appropriate time to mention this book I finished reading during my recent vacation. He is arguably the most highly sought-after designer of Formula 1 cars. Looking past the technicalities of the book, Adrian (written in first person) mentioned several insightful takeaways while navigating his career within F1 and other adjacent motorsports. One of which is to always ✨re-invent and never settle. Throughout F1 history, we've seen previously successful teams decline due to a lack of innovation. Adrian emphasized the need to continually reinvent himself and his team. To give his team an edge, he consistently challenges conventional norms and the regulations set by the FIA. What I find enjoyable about F1 is how the playing field is leveled after a major change in technical regulations, amidst the ongoing drama, politics, and driver line-ups. Brutal and competitive. Formula 1 had a brilliant race today at Silverstone. I enjoy watching Formula 1, because you can see teams operate in very smoothly in very stressful conditions. McLaren Racing had 2 cars that needed to change tires. Zak Brown wasn't comfortable doing the two stops at the same time. Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team also had 2 cars that needed tires. They felt very comfortable, so they 'double stacked' a pit stop. From a work instruction standpoint, this is an uncommon scenario. Everyone needs to know their jobs and their roles. Execution needs to happen perfectly for everyone from the driver to the tire carrier. Mercedes does this double stacked pit stop very well. A an hour later, Lewis Hamilton wins the race. Lewis Hamilton is brilliant. He guided the decision making for when to pit and what tires to use. It's these types of decision that determine who will ultimately win. Great work by Lewis, Mercedes, their whole team. A whole lot of people had to execute perfectly for a perfect result. A win for Lewis in front of his home crowd and his family. It was a story book ending.
