නිවන් සුව ලැබේවා!!! Few leaders have impacted the world as profoundly as Sir Ratan Tata. For us in Sri Lanka, the name Tata is deeply rooted in our daily lives. Today, nearly 99 percent of our public buses are Tata, a far cry from the uncomfortable small vans that dominated our roads decades ago. Ratan Tata's vision didn’t just improve transportation—it transformed it, making travel more accessible and reliable for millions of Sri Lankans. His legacy is one we experience every day on our streets. But Tata’s contributions went far beyond transportation. In India, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), under his leadership, helped digitalize numerous government services, modernizing how public services are delivered. From passport systems to tax filings, Tata helped streamline processes that used to be slow and inefficient. This transformation has not only made services more accessible but has also significantly reduced corruption and bureaucratic delays. As Sri Lanka grapples with its own challenges of inefficiency and corruption, there is much we can learn from the Tata approach—modernization and digital solutions can reshape how governments serve their people. Most importantly, Ratan Tata was a firm believer that success should be shared. His philanthropic initiatives in education, healthcare, and rural development have improved millions of lives. For our entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka, his example serves as a reminder that business success is not just about profits but about giving back to society. The path to lasting success lies in creating a better world for those who come after us.

🚗 Ford Pro CEO Ted Cannis to Retire After 35 Years at Ford. Ted Cannis, CEO of Ford Pro, is set to retire at the end of September, capping off a 35-year career at Ford. Since 2021, Cannis has led the commercial vehicle division to significant profitability and helped develop the Mustang Mach-E electric crossover. He also headed the Ford Customer Service Division during his tenure. Reflecting on his time, Cannis said: "It's been the most thrilling and rewarding chapter of my career to lead Ford Pro and FCSD. Ford Pro is a profitably growing business with unmatched scale, talent, and the best dealers and upfitters — all to serve the people and businesses who keep our economy and communities humming. I can't wait to watch Ford Pro and FCSD continue to innovate and grow." Andrew Frick, president of Ford Blue, will serve as interim leader while Ford searches for a permanent replacement. Whenever anyone talks about Sir Ratan Tata, it always reminds me of this story. In 1999, when Tata Motors’ passenger car division was struggling, Ratan Tata considered selling it to Ford. During a meeting in Detroit, Ford’s executives reportedly said, “You don’t know anything about the car business. Why did you start it?” That moment of humiliation could have been the end, but instead, it sparked a journey of determination. Fast forward to 2008, the tables had turned. Tata Motors acquired Jaguar Land Rover from Ford in a $2.3 billion deal. Bill Ford’s words at the time? “You are doing us a big favor by buying JLR.” This story always reminds me: setbacks are just setups for comebacks. A quarter of a century… Today I celebrate 25 years of Renault Group. A few days ago, my youngest daughter asked me why I wanted to work at Renault. This unpretentious question took me by surprise and made me think. The passion for cars, the desire to “make it happen” and the desire to work in a multinational company made me want to work for Renault, I replied to her. She smiled and moved on with her homework. During these years I had the privilege of executing the company's strategies by implementing industrial systems aligned with the constant evolution of the competitive automotive market. Seeing an industrial process producing what customers will buy and use to live their own stories... I think it's incredible. On this journey, I experienced the multinational international environment I wanted, including expatriations... a sensational learning experience. As an engineer, what I didn't expect was the impact of people and relationships on this journey. I did nothing alone. With many people I aligned ideas, we changed ideas, I listened, I was heard, I learned and I contributed. For about 3 years now, I have been proud to prepare and propose the company's industrial strategy for the powertrain of electric cars. Once again, work done with many people and a lot of discussions to align the way to go for the next many years. At the end of the day, in this captivating and constantly evolving industry, industrial processes expire, new cars replace old ones, but the impact of people on people and lived experiences shape our journey, mine at least. The well-lived Twingo from 25 years ago that still circulates on the streets of Paris will see the arrival of a new, high-tech, electric one very soon... in 25 years, what will be the “Twingo” of the moment? It's difficult to predict, but one thing is certain, it will be done by people who will contribute with people to the result. If I'm still here, I'll tell you about it in the half-century post. 😉
