Before the New Skills for Youth initiative, K–12, higher education, and workforce partners in Massachusetts were all using different vocabulary, language, and data for labor market information (LMI). Massachusetts began establishing definitions, common vernacular, and data standardization to better align LMI, which are still in use today. Since NSFY, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has also focused on data collection and implemented a tracking mechanism that codes all career pathways in the state data system so leaders can evaluate demographic and learner success.
