Are We Ready To Address Terrorist Threats? Security Threats: A Personal Perspective As a seasoned professional with extensive experience in law enforcement, security management, and military service, I understand the critical importance of safeguarding our nation against terrorist threats. In a recent interview with Sean Hannity, President Donald Trump emphasized the necessity of proactive measures to protect American citizens from terrorism. President Trump stated, “Our nation’s problems are ‘all solvable’ with time, effort, and money.” He highlighted the need for decisive action to address issues such as immigration and border security, which are vital components in preventing terrorist infiltration. He also criticized the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for its performance under the previous administration, expressing intentions to enhance its efficiency. In the interview, President Trump also discussed the importance of intelligence gathering and counterterrorism efforts. He emphasized the need to eliminate terrorist threats to keep Americans safe, underscoring the importance of a strong and proactive approach to national security. Drawing from my background, I believe that a comprehensive strategy is essential to combat terrorism effectively. This includes strengthening intelligence operations, enhancing border security, and fostering international cooperation to disrupt terrorist networks. Additionally, public awareness and community engagement play crucial roles in identifying and preventing potential threats. By implementing these measures, we can work towards a safer environment for all Americans, ensuring that our communities remain resilient against the challenges posed by terrorism. Excited to announce that my book is finally out: https://lnkd.in/es2Umqdc Based significantly on my field research since 2012 in #Afghanistan, #Iraq, and #Syria, the book delves into some of the dilemmas where the US has backed local #militias or #rebel forces. It's a book that centers around #proxywarfare and #USsecuritypolicy in the last two decades, but it's also a reflection on how policymakers deal with risk mitigation and balance competing policy objectives -- those related to immediate security imperatives versus #humanrights obligations and other democratic policy concerns. Also relevant to many of you in my Linked In network, it's largely based on YOUR thoughts and insights. The analysis draws from hundreds of conversations with those working with or affected by these dilemmas, from policymakers in DC to US commanders living these tradeoffs in the field, from Iraqi, Afghan or Turkish politicians and policymakers, to those in communities directly affected by conflict. Reach out to me if you have any ideas for #booktalks or audiences who might be interested and please share in your networks! #internationalhumanitarianlaw #USnationalsecurity #securitygovernance #internationalaw #foreignpolicyanalysis #counterinsurgency #counterterrorism

This survey from the rather conservative Ronald Reagan Foundation should not go unnoticed. It may just underline that the US public is not as “isolationalist” or indifferent as some think. NATO “…support for the alliance among the American people remains high, bipartisan, and remarkably consistent: …Americans strongly support NATO’s collective defense principle…Americans (72% overall, including 82% of Democrats and 68% of Republicans) would support the United States responding with military force if a NATO ally in Europe were attacked…. that support drops by 20 points to just 52% if that country is not spending at least 2% of its GDP on its own national defense…. Americans recognize numerous benefits of NATO membership …(77%) say that having allies who will stand by us if we are attacked is one of the main benefits; …(69%) value NATO’s role in checking Russian power and expansionism; (66%) regard NATO as beneficial to deterring violent conflict in Europe…” Ukraine “…support … consistent: 57% support the United States sending weapons to Ukraine… most effective argument (71%) was that a Russian victory would put NATO allies at risk of attack... Two-thirds (66%) say that they are more likely to support Ukraine after hearing that Russia could win the war if we do not provide aid.

Excellent assessment. Worth a look.
👀⚔️ There's a lot of #misinformation, #disinformation about Kash Patel, the president-elect's choice for director of the FBI, flying around so I thought I'd do a round up of #KashPatel background, behaviours and actions around matters of #lawenforcement, #justice and #publicsafety. Kashyap Pramod Patel was born 1980 in Garden City, New York, to Gujarati Indian parents. The family came to the U.S. from East Africa, via Canada. Kash was raised Hindu. Patel has a Juris Doctor (law degree) from Pace University School of Law and worked for the first eight years of his law career as a public defender in Florida. https://lnkd.in/gFwYGe6Z In 2017 Patel was an aide to House Intelligence Committee chair Devin Nunes, the congressman who played a central role in defending Trump during the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Nunes later resigned from Congress to become the CEO of the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG). During his first presidential term, Trump often referred to Kash Patel as "one of his top Ukraine policy specialists". Per congressional under oath testimony by Fiona Hill, deputy assistant to the president, Hill told investigators that it seems "Patel was improperly becoming involved in Ukraine policy and was sending information to Mr. Trump". https://lnkd.in/gygGgCZE In the previous Trump administration Patel was regularly floated by Trump as a late-term replacement to Christopher Wray as FBI director. Attorney General William Barr wrote that Patel would be the FBI director only "over his dead body". https://lnkd.in/gugmxEYq Patel has written a children's picture book, entitled The Plot Against the King, that claims discussing the Christopher Steele dossier, the one that contended Trump was the victim of kompromat [salacious, damaging materials] held by the Russian government to blackmail Trump. Patel is a hired pitchman for a dietary supplement marketed as a "COVID vaccine detoxification system," produced by a company co-founded by an individual who was previously a defendant in a class-action lawsuit for defrauding customers. At a CPAC conference, Patel said: “We’re blessed by God to have Donald Trump be our juggernaut of justice, to be our leader, to be our continued warrior in the arena." Trump’s leadership PAC has paid Patel more than $300,000 since last year. Patel is on Trump's media company board of directors. In a 2022 podcast, Patel stated that Truth Social aimed to integrate QAnon—a collection of conspiracy theories based on the belief that the govt is controlled by a cabal of child pr*dators—"into our overall messaging scheme to engage audiences." https://lnkd.in/gZMWDygR

Worse, despite abundant examples of authoritarian aggression and worldwide terror attacks, nearly 1 in 5 Americans seem to be confused about where the real threats to their liberty are actually emanating from. According to the UT Austin study, a growing number of Americans thought that the intelligence community represented a threat to civil liberties: 17 percent in 2022, up from 12 percent in 2021. A nontrivial percentage of Americans feel that the intelligence community is an insidious threat instead of a valuable protector in a dangerous world—a perspective that jeopardizes the security and prosperity of the United States and its allies. https://lnkd.in/eczjjW-U
