Hope is not a tool and luck is not a tactic. When technology and policing strategies come together to put assets in the right place at the right time to impact the criminal element, what do leaders think comes next? Potentially violent offenders won't simply teleport into the back of cruisers with hands secured behind their back in handcuffs, doube-locked. The FBI UCR for 2023 officers assaulted and killed in 2023 released this month and the numbers show a significant upward trend in assaults on police. Complacency has no place in modern policing. Tactics and strategies should be linked. Leaders who neglect to support effective, regular training in accordance with pedagogical methods rooted in science are negligent, in my opinion. Yet it's shocking how few agencies put any priority on the preparation and training of their sworn personnel, but will shell out thousands of dollars for the next most popular buzz-word.

Policing Insight’s James Sweetland joined officers and staff from the Metropolitan Police for a live facial recognition (LFR) deployment, to gain a better understanding of the operational benefits and challenges as well as the public response to this new technology. ❝Every LFR deployment begins with a briefing for the officers who will be involved on the day… delivered by a member of the Met’s small central FR unit.❞ ❝What’s most striking is how many officers are involved on the ground.❞ ❝In the end, the Met’s records show that this first Ealing deployment lasted six hours and 11 minutes, scanning around 2,500 faces.❞ ❝This is now one of our most significant tools for being proactive around this, particularly where we know offenders who are wanted are missing but have managed to evade being caught.❞ - Ch Supt Sean Wilson, Met Police ❝I would say to any community or any senior politician, if you’ve got people wandering around in our societies who are very serious, wanted offenders – who have committed some very serious offences – you and I are going to want them taken off the streets.❞ - Ch Supt Sean Wilson, Met Police [SUBSCRIBER ARTICLE] https://lnkd.in/eGCAjhgf #lawenforcement #policing #police #technology #facialrecognition
