Did you know wild apple trees are important for rare woodland pastures and wet woodlands? 🍎 Due to hybridisation with domestic apple trees this species is becoming rarer and rarer. Which is one of the reasons our team at Newton helped find space for a new wild apple orchard. This project will provide a clone bank of wild apples. This can be used to plant wild apple trees in forests across Scotland to help with biodiversity and protecting the native species. You can hear more tree conservation stories for #NationalTreeWeek 🌳 in our latest blog by heading to the link in the first comment 👇

Today is #NationalReptileAwarenessDay, a day to celebrate the beauty and importance of reptiles. We want to highlight some amazing captures shared by our team to raise awareness about these often misunderstood creatures and their habitats. Reptiles play a vital role in maintaining the health of ecosystems as both predators and prey, helping to balance populations within various food webs and enhancing biodiversity. However, approximately 21% of all reptile species are at risk of extinction, according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. This highlights the urgent need for reptile conservation. If you ever get a chance to spot them, admire them, and let them thrive in their habitat. Let's all explore, protect, and share the wonders of our reptilian friends! 📸 Suraj Poojary | Shailesh Kadam #ReptileConservation #WildlifePhotography #NatureBasedSolutions #BiodiversityMatters #EcoAwareness #SaveOurSpecies

Open Natural Ecosystems serve as a crucial habitat for many critically endangered faunal species, including the Great Indian Bustard. These habitats are unfortunately neglected by mainstream conservation narratives and misunderstood as degraded ecosystems or barren lands. Once a contender to be our National bird, less than 150 Great Indian Bustards remain in the wild today. They were formerly found across the Indian Subcontinent, but they are now locally extinct in 90% of its original range. #WildlifeWeek2024 #notwastelands #OpenNaturalEcosystems #GrasslandGuardians #StripedHyena #BiodiversityMatters #SaveOurGrasslands #HyenaConservation #EcoHealth #ProtectOurHabitats #IndianWildlife #ConserveONE #HealthyEcosystems #WildlifeConservation #GrasslandsOfIndia

On International Gibbon Day, we celebrate these incredible, acrobatic tree dwellers who are not only vital to the health of forest ecosystems but are also among the most endangered primates on the planet. With their habitats rapidly disappearing and the threat of being captured for the illegal pet trade, gibbons face a serious risk of extinction. At, Focused Conservation we are committed to protecting all primates, including gibbons, whose survival is essential for biodiversity. Many species are listed as endangered or critically endangered, making it more urgent than ever to take action. Let’s work together to raise awareness and safeguard these creatures before it’s too late. #FocusedConservation #InternationalGibbonDay #Gibbon #WildlifeConservation #GibbonConservation #EndangeredSpecies #SaveTheGibbons

National Parks contain protected areas that are vitally important for biodiversity 🏞️ But Campaign for National Parks Health Check Report shows that SSSIs in #NationalParks are on average in worse condition than those elsewhere 📉 Urgent action is needed👉 https://lnkd.in/eGYfsRYM In the #CouncilClimateScorecards we ask councils if "local wildlife sites in the council's area are in positive conservation management", one of the 9 criteria in our Biodiversity section. 🦋 We welcome this new research on #NationalParks and hope that it helps secure further investments in conservation and rewilding efforts 🌳 https://lnkd.in/esxs7ZXJ

Conserving ecosystems like the one depicted means protecting the diversity of plant life, which in turn supports various insect species and pollinators. These pollinators are crucial for the reproduction of many plants, leading to the growth of new plants that provide food and shelter for various animals. This photo provides a small window into the importance of preserving all levels of biodiversity, from the smallest wildflower to the largest ecosystems. It reminds us that conservation efforts protect not just individual species but the intricate web of life that sustains us all.
