Site security is a growing concern as both accidental and deliberate vehicle infringement pose risks. While safety measures are critical, they also offer an opportunity to enhance the design and functionality of outdoor spaces. This year, our team member Emily presented at the #ASLA2024 conference on our security bollards, designed to protect public spaces. The course covers selecting security bollards that provide effective protection while adding aesthetic value. It addresses assessing security needs, understanding testing standards and foundation engineering, and exploring design innovations that combine durability, lighting performance, and seamless integration into landscapes. 👷♂️ ITSC valuable for Laser Cladding guys? Transitioning from the sleek exhibition booth to teardown, already at the airport. Initially, I anticipated a conference steeped in old-school thermal spraying tech, with seasoned gentlemen resistant to innovation. However, it turned out to be a hub of talks on laser cladding and thermal spraying, with familiar faces from the cladding realm. It's fascinating to witness the proximity of these processes. 💪 The journey to ITSC proved valuable; we'll return!!! #ITSC #thermalSpraying #laserCladding #innovation #technology #conference #engineering #processes #networking #industryEvents #professionalDevelopment #optimization #eventPlanning Just a note, some fine-tuning would be nice with regards on the catering and the final day on a public holiday. Let's see.

Last week at All Energy Australia in Melbourne, I had the pleasure of meeting Rob Haddock, the founder of S-5! Our conversation reminded me that true innovation often lies in simplicity. S-5!'s brackets and clamps (I'm holding one in the photo) eliminate the need for traditional racks, reducing costs and installation time while preserving the integrity of metal roofs. It's incredible how such straightforward solutions can solve complex problems and revolutionise an industry. Key Insights: 💡 Innovation is about problem-solving: In this case, reducing cost and complexity. 💡 Less is often better: Fewer materials and quicker installation means a better customer experience and a lower cost. 💡 The value of tradeshows: While digital is great for reach, investing in trade shows is a fantastic way to connect. Thanks Rob, for sharing your insights and demonstrating your innovation. //GERMANY EXPLAINED IN ONE SENTENCE Die Treppe ist gesperrt, weil die Stufen nicht der DIN-Norm entsprechen. Sie kann aber nicht umgebaut werden, da sie unter Denkmalschutz steht. Actually, you can't even translate this, but here is a try: The staircase is closed because the steps do not comply with the DIN standard. However, it cannot be rebuilt because it is a monument-protected building. P.S. Picture this: It’s 1854, New York City. The Crystal Palace exhibition is in full swing, drawing a sea of spectators. Suspended high above, an open platform hangs by a single cable, looking like a proto-elevator. A man steps onto the platform, and the crowd collectively holds its breath—if that cable snaps, it’s all over for him. That man is Elisha Otis, an engineer with unwavering faith in his invention: the world’s first safety brake for elevators. Up until this moment, elevators were dangerous contraptions, their cables prone to snapping, making any ride a gamble with gravity. They were used sparingly, mostly for lifting cargo in warehouses and factories, not people. But Otis had a vision for change. In 1852, he designed a mechanism that would automatically lock the platform in place if the cable failed, preventing a catastrophic fall. Yet, convincing the public required more than technical jargon; it needed spectacle. And so, at the 1854 fair, Otis staged a daring demonstration. At his command, an assistant dramatically sliced through the single cable holding the platform. The crowd gasped, expecting disaster. But the platform didn’t plunge—it held firm, suspended in midair. Otis turned to the audience with a calm smile and declared, ‘All safe, gentlemen!’ This audacious act changed everything. Elevators were no longer feared; they became a reliable means of transport, soon appearing in residential and commercial buildings. Otis’s invention paved the way for skyscrapers and reshaped the urban landscape, revolutionizing cities around the globe. #visionary #history #innovators
