With the first poinsettias reaching sites this week we have put together a presentation of a full IPM approach to achieve strategic control of whitefly, following a difficult year for whitefly control last year in the poinsettias. Included in the talk is an insecticide update covering important whitefly control products and where we currently stand with authorisations and restrictions, as well as integrating these products alongside the biological control. Also discussed are the new whitefly lure pheromones recently available on the market for Trialeurodes vaporariorum and Bemisia tabaci.
Whiteflies are significant pests for poinsettias. They feed on plant sap, which weakens the plants, and their excretion of honeydew leads to mould which further inhibits plant growth. Having an effective IPM programme can manage whiteflies by combining early detection with biological, cultural and chemical controls. Fargro's Technical Specialist, Alex Matthews has created a video outlining a complete integrated pest management approach for growers to achieve control of whitefly in Poinsettias. Over the course of my life, I've had the privilege of learning from some of the best. One of the lessons that has stuck with me since my early career days is to work smarter, not harder. Now, that doesn't mean hard work isn't involved - it is - but if there's a way to work more efficiently and effectively, well, sign me up! I had an amazing marketing manager at Six Flags Fiesta Texas (yes, believe it or not, I worked in the marketing department at Six Flags) who embodied this philosophy. She was (and still is) 'good people' - a calm, funny, and effective leader who taught me a lot. She'd create and manipulate these incredible spreadsheets that would take limited inputs and somehow produce all the data needed. Want to know what the forecast was for March of 2003? Workbook C, sheet 18, row 12, column X. Compare the forecast to the budget? Same workbook, sheet 24, row 4, column G. It was that detailed - crazy stuff. Every sheet worked in perfect tandem with the others. It was like watching data flow in perfect synchronization, and it felt almost magical. The hard work of creating those workbooks was done upfront, so the "work smarter" part could kick in later. That lesson stuck really with me: invest in the front end to make everything smoother later. It's an approach that I still try to carry into most things I do and it is a lesson I am constantly teaching my children. This philosophy is also at the heart of ChemCal Pro. I designed ChemCal Pro to do the heavy lifting so that pest management professionals can focus on the efficient, effective work they do best. Just like those spreadsheets, ChemCal Pro takes all the complexity - from product selection to calculating application rates - and makes it flow seamlessly. The hard work happens behind the scenes, so that when it's time to make decisions, everything is clear and straightforward. The goal is simple: make life easier for the professional, so they can focus on getting results, spending less time worrying about the backend details. With ChemCal Pro, the upfront investment in smart tools means smoother operations and more informed decision-making, allowing pest management professionals to truly work smarter, not harder. With the pre-launch of ChemCal Pro just around the corner, we’re looking for professionals who want to be part of our early access group. If you're interested, let me know. Feel free to send this along to a pest management professional and follow our LinkedIn page for more.
At the heart of ChemCal Pro are our advanced calculator tools, designed to guide professionals toward accurate application decisions. These tools simplify the process of determining application rates by making each step - selecting the pest, treatment site, and application method - clear and straightforward, minimizing the risk of over or under applications. In addition, our pesticide information section offers detailed insights into each product, including general information and safety guidelines. This ensures that professionals are equipped to make informed decisions, staying on top of both efficiency and effectiveness. ChemCal Pro empowers pest management professionals with the tools they need to enhance both their knowledge and precision. #pestcontrol #pestmanagement #chemcalpro

Case Study | Severe product leakage resolved between silo, sifter and conveyor. Facing a significant hurdle in their soybean powder production line, a prominent agricultural and food production company encountered issues with clamped connectors connecting a powder silo, sifters, and screw conveyor. These connectors were unable to effectively contain the product, raising concerns about leakage and the potential risks to the health and safety of their staff.
