The 73rd Statistical Review of World Energy, released yesterday, reports on global energy markets in 2023. Last year saw record-high energy demand, fossil fuel consumption, energy-related emissions reached all-time highs and renewable energy generation, particularly from solar and wind power, also achieved new records. Wind and solar combined were the most prominent new energy sources in 2023, increasing by 13% to 4,748 TWh. This impressive growth accounted for 8% of the overall energy consumption, up from 7.5% in 2022. Hydroelectric power production fell last year due to droughts in North America and China. All renewables energy, including hydroelectric, accounted for 15% of the worldwide energy mix. However, despite these gains, if we maintain the current level of renewable energy generation addition, we will not meet the COP28 target to triple global renewable energy generation to at least 11,000 GW by 2030. I invite you to explore the report and accompanying data set to understand the trends and join the conversation on shaping the energy transition. #EnergyTransition #COP28 #RenewableEnergy #Solar #WindPower
