Tried my best to keep it precise :) Today I will be talking about something which is quite crucial to the hospitality industry in the United Kingdom! 🇬🇧 🔍My Key Takeaways from the 2024 Autumn Budget for Hospitality: - 📈Rising Costs: The National Living Wage increase to £12.21/hour and higher National Insurance Contributions mean more expenses for hospitality businesses. This could lead to price hikes or cost-cutting measures, including reduced hours and staff cuts. - 🏢Business Rates Relief: The extension of business rates relief for hospitality venues is a win, helping smaller businesses stay afloat amidst rising costs. - 🍺Alcohol Duty Changes: A cut in draught beer duty helps pubs, but higher duties on spirits and bottled drinks could impact bars and restaurants that rely on these products. - 💸Financial Pressure: The sector faces an additional £3 billion in costs annually, adding strain on already tight margins. Overall, the budget strikes a balance but leaves the industry navigating some tough financial challenges. Feel free to share your insights in the comments section, would be more than happy to learn more about the same! 🌟 #UKHospitality #Hospitality #Hotels #Budget #Insights #Staff

The Scottish hospitality sector faces challenges that put it at risk of falling behind counterparts in England. One of this biggest concerns is, as we have said on many occasions, the outdated 170 year old NDR policy. It's crucial that in the upcoming Scottish budget, that hospitality is given a short term fix for the year ahead, with a 35p poundage rate, which would give the sector some confidence on two fronts: 1: To help the business stem continual cash burn, and allow for a period of stability, helping in some ways the profitability of the business, as we now look towards higher costs post UK government budget 2: To give the hospitality sector some confidence that they are being listened to by The Scottish Government 3: To allow time over the next year to work back from the 2026 revaluations, to bring in a better and more fairer system for the sector. The Scottish Hospitality Group reaffirmed its commitment to working with The Scottish Government on this, as discussed at a recent meeting with Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes MSP

The issue around Non-Domestic rates has long been a headache for hospitality businesses in Scotland. The unfairness forced on the sector in comparison to other sectors, but also in to rGB is clear. The policy which is over 170 years old is clearly unfit for purpose. SHG is, and continue to be at the heart of Scottish Government discussions around the changes needed to make this a fairer system.
