I regularly work with women returning to work following a career break. Our sessions together often begin by focusing on building inner confidence and challenging the limiting beliefs that hold them back - there is often self-doubt about how 'employable' they feel or concerns about their ability to step back into their previous roles. Reframing concerns and recognising their own key strengths and skills is essential in developing the confidence to apply for roles they’re more than qualified to thrive in. However, it’s not just about individual effort - organisations also play a key role in encouraging women to return to the workforce. Int his blog, I've captured a few things companies can do to make a difference to encourage women to apply. Thanks as always to Cambridge Network for sharing this piece. #womenreturners #returningtowork #confidence

Five critical steps for building a better future for women in STEM: “Visibility is crucial for women to advance in their careers. Leaders can help by actively sponsoring women by putting them forward for high-profile projects and advocating for them during promotion discussions. This includes providing opportunities for women to showcase their skills and contributions. Further actionable steps include creating shadowing opportunities where women can attend meetings and gain insights into higher-level decision-making, helping them build networks that aid their career advancement.” Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/ey5R7gTc #WomenInSTEM #GirlsInSTEM #STEMGems #GiveGirlsRoleModels

Globally, the proportion of women working in #informationtechnology (IT) is low, despite recruitment and training initiatives. To understand women’s motivations to study #IT, researchers interviewed a small group of eight women enrolled in IT degrees at the Technical University of Munich. They identified several environmental and individual factors, including IT courses, supportive parents and teachers, and having peers in IT. The researchers suggest amplifying these findings to improve #recruitment initiatives and attract more women to IT. Watch our animation to find out more:
How can we amplify factors thatmotivate women to pursue IT careers?

For most of my career (until fairly recently) I have found myself being the only woman; (or one of a handful) in the office, or boardroom or a meeting etc. Ladies working in male-dominated careers can relate. Needless to say, there are various dynamics to navigate in order to, not just survive but thrive in this setting. However, I have also found that there exists some unique opportunities for being in this environment. Often times, there are many opportunities for scholarships, fellowships and various affirmative action initiatives that ladies in these career fields could take advantage of for career growth. There are opportunities to bring in new perspectives, fresh-eyes and thinking & even leveraging on ideas that promote inclusivity, to organizations in these sectors. This creates a unique niche and professional 'value proposition' for women in such career spaces. There is also a huge opportunity to mentor upcoming female professionals in these sectors. By tapping into our accumulated experience and knowledge of how to get in and thrive in these careers, we will make it easier for women coming behind us, & contribute to opening up these spaces for more women.
