⚡️ 🌱 One goal, different pathways! Paving the way to carbon neutrality in the power sector! How can we decarbonise the #powersector by transitioning to a flexible, renewable-driven future, without remaining dependent on natural gas? 📘 Our new paper, entitled “Bidirectional soft-linking of a Capacity Expansion Model with a Production Cost Model to evaluate the feasibility of transition pathways towards carbon neutrality in the power sector, published at Elsevier’s Applied Energy Journal, dives deep into this question! We coupled two #opensource energy models to explore long-term scenarios in the power sector and evaluate their feasibility, allowing for the optimisation of investments over a 30-year period. 💡 Key insights of our analysis: 🔹 A green transition can lead to #carbonneutrality by 2035. 🔹 Results demonstrate a path dependency on #naturalgas at least until 2033. 🔹 #Hydrogen deployment offers a solution to decarbonise and future-proof new gas power plants. 👏 Many kudos to my colleagues Nikos Kleanthis and Dr. Vassilis Stavrakas for this very insightful work! 👉 Hurry! You can read the full paper for free for the next 45 days: https://lnkd.in/dB_SyqaB 💬 What are your thoughts on these findings?
