This global observance, established by the United Nations in 1992, emphasizes the rights, dignity, and well-being of persons with disabilities while highlighting their invaluable contributions to society. This year's theme, "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future," highlights the importance of “Nothing About Us Without Us” and meaningful leadership of diverse people with disabilities in creating a more inclusive and sustainable world for all. Shout out to our Human Services Agency partners and others who help people with disabilities on International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). Celebrated annually on December 3rd, its purpose is to promote the inclusion, rights, and well-being of people with disabilities. This this year's IDPD theme is "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future," and the United Nation's website lists these calls to action: - Promoting the leadership of persons with disabilities in all areas of life. - Ensuring the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society. - Increasing the participation of persons with disabilities in decision-making processes. - Raising awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities. - Celebrating the achievements of persons with disabilities.
