It's beyond a farce. And the problem has been clear for many years. This is a question *only* for those who think that reform of the COP process is possible and useful. What specifically do you propose and how do you think it can be pushed past the objections of petrostates which are certain if the reform proposals have potential value? Please address the policy *and* the politics. (I know several of you will say the COP process is beyond saving but pls don't do that on this post. We *definitely* need to hear about alternatives especially given Trump but that warrants a separate post. Thanks in advance.

📣 BREAKING: New Kick Big Polluters Out's analysis finds a shocking 1,770+ fossil fuel lobbyists at the ongoing climate talks — this number is higher than the delegates of the ten most climate-vulnerable nations. “New climate talks, same old story. Corporate capture - as demonstrated by the volume of fossil fuel lobbyists roaming in the corridors and rooms of COP29 - will continue to impede progress towards climate action if left unchecked," commented CIEL's Erika Lennon. With so many foxes in the hen house, it's not hard to see why progress remains elusive and climate chaos increases. It is long past time for the UNFCCC and States to address the obvious conflict of interest of having those wrecking the planet in the process of saving it. 15-year-old activist Greta Thunberg speaks truth to power at the UN COP24 climate talks: "My name is Greta Thunberg. I am 15 years old. I am from Sweden. I speak on behalf of Climate Justice Now. Many people say that Sweden is just a small country and it doesn't matter what we do. But I've learned you are never too small to make a difference. And if a few children can get headlines all over the world just by not going to school, then imagine what we could all do together if we really wanted to. But to do that, we have to speak clearly, no matter how uncomfortable that may be. You only speak of green eternal economic growth because you are too scared of being unpopular. You only talk about moving forward with the same bad ideas that got us into this mess, even when the only sensible thing to do is pull the emergency brake. You are not mature enough to tell it like is. Even that burden you leave to us children. But I don't care about being popular. I care about climate justice and the living planet. Our civilization is being sacrificed for the opportunity of a very small number of people to continue making enormous amounts of money. Our biosphere is being sacrificed so that rich people in countries like mine can live in luxury. It is the sufferings of the many which pay for the luxuries of the few. The year 2078, I will celebrate my 75th birthday. If I have children maybe they will spend that day with me. Maybe they will ask me about you. Maybe they will ask why you didn't do anything while there still was time to act. You say you love your children above all else, and yet you are stealing their future in front of their very eyes. One of the biggest problems in the agenda towards a more sustainable future is that efforts are lead by the very people with highest interests to pursue a contrary direction. All considered, this seems like a big exercise in futility. Projects, especially climate crisis as it is the most complex one we have to face, need the right people with the right motivation and skills to be executed. It is as simple as that.

Looking at the rundown how of events unfolded in the first week of COP29, are we witnessing a genuine shift toward climate finance that empowers vulnerable countries, or are we merely witnessing the same old financial band-aids that ignore systemic inequality and continually cling to outdated paradigms that jeopardize the planet’s future?
