⚠️ “This is the most important COP. If we miss it now, we are all going to be doomed.” At #COP29, developed countries have failed to put a climate finance number on the table after 3 years of talks, 14 meetings, and 10+ days of negotiations. Now, they want to squeeze this critical conversation into the last 24 to 36 hours—a shocking display of bad faith that puts millions in vulnerable nations at risk. Harjeet Singh, Global Engagement Director for the #FossilFuelTreaty Initiative called it out: “It is outrageous to see that developed countries have not even put a number on the table yet. While the draft text acknowledges that the needs are already running into trillions of dollars annually, yet developed countries have not mentioned how big the goal is going to be.” This failure is catastrophic: 🌡️ Mitigation ambition is missing from the text. 💧 Adaptation needs are skyrocketing, yet grants remain vague. 🏚️ Loss and damage costs are in the billions annually, but the text offers empty promises. Developed nations must act boldly and urgently by committing trillions of dollars in grant-based finance. Anything less condemns vulnerable communities to further suffering and pushes the world closer to climate catastrophe.
