Roots & Wings is an incredible non-profit organization dedicated to supporting youth aging out of foster care. The statistics speak for themselves: - More than 1 in 5 will become homeless within 18 months of emancipating. - Almost 50% of inmates in our prison systems have spent time in the foster care system. - Only half of aged-out foster youth obtain their GED or High School diploma by age 19. - Just 6% go on to earn a 2- or 4-year degree. In 2023, Roots & Wings members defied the odds: - 100% have a High School diploma. - 94% were employed. - 88% maintained a savings account. - 81% attended an educational, vocational, or certificate program. Many companies demonstrate ethical practices by respecting their audiences and staying true to their purpose. Nearly two years ago, I researched businesses that have successfully acted ethically, and one that stood out was Build-A-Bear Workshop.  Beyond creating stuffed animals, Build-A-Bear is dedicated to bringing joy and making a difference. They’ve donated over $22 million to organizations supporting children’s well-being and health.  One remarkable initiative is their partnership with Shriners Children’s, where they donated 5,000 stuffed bears and established play areas to bring comfort to young patients. This commitment to community impact aligns with their mission: to empower and uplift children worldwide.  By prioritizing emotional connection and social responsibility, Build-A-Bear Workshop sets an example of how businesses can thrive while making a meaningful difference.

Earlier this month, local domestic and family violence (DVF) workers and experts gathered for the annual Hunter Domestic Violence Forum to collaborate, build capacity, and share knowledge and expertise. 💡 A key highlight was the launch of a new tech-facilitated abuse resource, which will help sector workers from the Hunter better navigate and support those affected by cyberstalking and technology-facilitated abuse. 🔍💻 Proudly funded by a recent Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation grant and developed in a collaboration between FAMILY SUPPORT NEWCASTLE INC and WorkVentures, the resource consists of: ⭐ A practical technology-facilitated abuse 'playbook', ⭐Complimentary educational workshops, ⭐And access to a mentoring and coaching hotline. We are honoured to help bring this resource to life which, along with being an investment in the region’s DFV sector, will also help thousands within our community. 💜

There is an proverb "Charity begins at home..." Thinking through it emphasizes the importance of nurturing values within the family before extending or expecting them from others.
