Chocolate teapots are rubbish for transporting tea. Trust me, I know. An EVP without purpose and value exchange is also a chocolate teapot. And it's equally poor at transporting tea. Here's the third snippet of my speaker slot from RecFest UK, where I talk about value exchange and making it authentic. Keep DM-ing me if you want a copy of the slide deck that goes with this, you're very welcome to it #redknows #recfest #evp

Never waste a good crisis? James is a specialist in creating crisis, usually leaving the people he employs suffering in his wake and, he always gets away with scot-free. From homophobic slurs and false advertising to toxic work environments and abandoning environmental and fair pay pledges, there needs to come a time when we say enough is enough, time to get in the bin. He is free to cosy up to Nigel Farage if he wishes, and free to speak up on causes he believes in, and we're all free to market ourselves however we want, but we have to face up to and face the consequences if we are caught mismanaging or telling untruths. Unless you're rich of course. I doubt when he started Brewdog he envisaged it as a middle class Weatherspoons, but here we are. At least Tim Martin doesn't hide behind a facade and Weatherspoon's actually provides good value! He wanted to "Set fire to the Beer scene", managing to burn their B-Corp certification and living wages away in the process. After 17 years of bravado schtick, Brewdog's lasting achievements for society are the 2/3 pint glass and victory in a feud with the ultimate authority, *check notes*, the Elvis Presley estate. Punks are community minded, have always stood up to bullies, were pro union and embraced differences. Punk is a commitment to values, not a Green day album. James is not punk. He is another millionaire grifter who pulls the ladder up behind him. Be less James Watt CEO INVESTOR ENTREPRENEUR, be more (actual) Punk. Views are my own.
When BrewDog launched Elvis Juice, the Elvis Presley Estate claimed we had to pay them a license fee for every can, case and bottle that we sold. They claimed the general public might be led to believe that the deceased King of Rock 'n' Roll had endorsed the beer (which I think if he was still with us, he would have) and on that basis, the beer needed to rebrand immediately. Or else. So, in 2016, I legally changed my name to Elvis. So did Martin. We sent them a letter back asking for a license fee because they were using our name on all of their music! And with our names changing, the beer was now named after us. Problem solved. We then sent out a press release and offered a free pint to people who were willing to dress up like Elvis at selected BrewDog pubs globally. We sold over 4 million cans of Elvis Juice in its first year, and it has been one of our key headline beers ever since. Moral? Never waste a good crisis. The way we saw it, even a lawsuit against the King of Rock 'n' Roll could be punk. --------- And follow me, James Watt, for more unfiltered advice on business and leadership.
