Tomorrow, the twelfth edition of the IronMan 70.3 will be held in San Juan - an event that, in its past editions, generated around $2 million in economic activity. According to the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, "this edition is projected to have the participation of 1,500 athletes and the creation of 4,500 room nights for the event days, which will result in an economic impact of around $3 million for Puerto Rico's economy." Beyond its impact on lodging, it is estimated that visitors will reflect an average daily expenditure of $191 for four days in other industries related to the Visitor Economy (restaurants, gas stations, pharmacies, among others). Events like the IronMan 70.3 are a vivid example of how this type of activity can serve as an economic boost for our communities. We must continue to support these initiatives and find ways to bring this economic activity to other regions with disadvantaged communities. Learn more in this article from Metro Puerto Rico.

⛷️Whether you’re skiing, hiking, cycling, sailing or engaging in any outdoor sport for longer periods of time or at higher altitudes, it’s important to choose sun care that can handle the intensified UV rays. ⛰️Mineral-based sunscreens are effective for outdoor sport activities, offering robust protection. Therefore, choose a sunscreen that is proven to work at high altitude in mountainous environments. 🌤️To avoid sunburn always keep an eye on your sun exposure and don’t forget to re-apply frequently when necessary. Also, when choosing your sunscreen, it is advised to consider the following factors such as your skin type, time of day, season, geographic location, altitude, cloud cover, clothing, and reflection of sun on surfaces such as water or snow.❄️ ✅PURU is trusted for use in Switzerland at higher altitudes and in mountains where UV rays are more intense. Its revolutionary non-whitening mineral formula also means you don’t have to worry about how you look when using a mineral based SPF. #MineralSunscreen #MountainSports #ProtectYourSkin #NoWhitecast

The mighty & magnificent Brenva face of Mont Blanc - where impossible hopes and dreams may become reality if you try hard enough - a crucible that has stood the test of time providing challenging cutting edge adventures of the eras from those early bold alpine ascents of Brown & Smythe to the cutting edge ski descents of Holzer, Benedetti, Tardivel, Dan, Joyeusaz. Legendary lines; Brenva Spur, Sentinelle, Major, Poire, Peuterey. Bonatti-Zapelli. I’m fortunate and grateful to have added to with the Poire-Major-Sentinelle link that threads it way through some mind blowing situations on that Himalayan sized face. The photo doesn’t show all their lines, it’s shows my work in progress, lines I’m proud to have skied, days that required a lot of sacrifice of time, time off work, weather watching, training and maintaining acclimatization to be there on the few hours of that morning in the whole season or decade when the impossible was possible. Around the world there are few such crucibles of equal magnitude and beauty. One of them is New Zealand’s enormous Aoraki (Mt Cook)and it’s neighbour Te Horokoau (Tasman), both of which have multiple massive complex faces that have been dreamt about by ski mountaineers for decades, often dismissively, but gradually a select few brothers have seen the vision of what’s possible. In 2 weeks I’ll be heading there looking to add to my list of first descents using that experience. With climate change affecting the ski industry & being born in Britain which doesn’t have a heritage in exploratory big mountain skiing, obtaining sponsorship to do these trips has become impossible - if I was a British Alpinist there are a large number of funds & grants that would enable a life time of adventure but nothing for skiing . That’s why for this trip I choose to use GoFundMe - it’s been heartwarming to see support from around the globe ranging from the die hard extreme atheles that knowni’ll support them in their next trip to the philanthropist’s that wanted to see the sport progress. Love it or hate it, wasn’t embracing a common vision the basis of how those funds came about in the first place? Link https://gofund.me/842c9259 🙏. Tomorrow some Mont Blanc west face history

Thank you for placing your votes in our recent Sun or Snow poll. After all this rain the need for some Vitamin D was clearly strong with Team Sun coming in at 56% of the vote. As always we are happy to oblige. Keep following as we will be sharing some of our exclusive sun destinations over the coming months. But for now (and because I was team Snow and you can get plenty of sunshine on the slopes too) here is a bit of advice. Many of the lower European resorts continue to suffer from poor snow but destinations over 1600m have seen great coverage throughout the season. If you are thinking about a team ski trip next season we are already taking bookings and would advise early conversations with your CLEAR account manager to secure your desired accommodation in the right locations. We know our snow and can get you up high as well as plan in contingency when needed. Example CLEAR locations: St Anton, Val ‘d’sere, Verbier, Courchevel, Cervinia CLEAR Highlights: Ski, snowboard, snow shoeing, VIP après, culinary experiences, wellness & spa. #ski #snow #teamskitrip #rewards #incentives #bespokeevents #eventagency #staffrewards #peopleteam

Kilian Jornet did it: All 82 Alpine peaks over 4,000 meters in 19 days (Sep 2, 2024) Kilian Jornet conquered all 82 Alpine peaks over 4,000 meters in 19 days by hiking, climbing, running and cycling (between the mountain areas) without any motorized means. He broke the previous record (60 days from 2008 by Franz Nicolini and Diego Giovannini) in more than 40 days. In these 19 days, he covered a distance of 1,207 km with 75,344 meters of elevation gain and 267:45:16 hours of activity, sleeping an average of 5:17 hours. https://lnkd.in/ezpCx2Pn ("Alpine connections" in Spanish) https://lnkd.in/efjaZtef (a short summary in German) https://lnkd.in/eWtYKdVJ; https://lnkd.in/eXvmgAxi (and finally in English) I now make the claim that no other human will ever be able to break this record. There should also be no doubt about who is the greatest athlete of all time. Having climbed 177 three-thousanders in the Pyrenees in 8 days last year and all the 82 four-thousanders of the Alps in 19 days this year, the question now should be: What else could he do to continue to push his limits? Maybe all 14 eight-thousanders in less than two months (Himalayan/Karakoram connections)? A Spanish newspaper wrote: Kilian swallows the Alps, devours them, erases them and makes them disappear, becoming a man bigger than the Alps, capable of imprisoning them and dissolving them within himself.

In this winter holiday season, so many Europeans are going to the Alps to practice their favorite sport activity : skiing ⛷️ Pictures as this one (taken from a famous ski resort in Valais) are exchanged over the social medias, although this year, the lack of snow clearly spoils the party ❄️ Urban legends mislead us to think that this sport, extremely popular in Switzerland, was created in this country. Far from the truth. The birthplace of European skiing is Scandinavia, where land covered with snow during the majority of the year promoted creativity for the means of transport. Remains of skis were found in Sweden, dated up to 4500 BC. They were imported in Switzerland by Norwegian engineers and businessmen at the end of the 19th century and made popular by British tourists in the 1920's. The crowded resorts of Verbier, Gstaad or Crans-Montana were once peaceful mountain pasture where the cries of the elegant jackdaw birds were only interrupted by the moos of the cows 🏔️ Today, these sites draw tens of thousands of ski amateurs, originating intense traffic congestions, up to the stations. that could open another debate about the environmental impact of this popularity that we will avoid for today 🙂 Rather, we will spend the few hours left before sunset by initiating another #learnanywhere session. Thanks to Jean-Luc Affaticati for this inspiring picture ! #ExperienceMatters #InformationSecurity #ISMS #ISO27001 PECB

How a potentially bad experience turned into a day highlight - CX IRL Gondola edition 🚠 Picture this, you are skiing on a beautiful sunny afternoon in the Swiss alps, you have to take a gondola up and it’s packed to the brim. Full of people who, just as you, need to go up the mountain at that very same moment. People pushing, ski boots clonking, kids screaming and shoving to be at the front, more pushing, uncomfortable sport smells and invasion of your personal space. A situation with all the ingredients of a potential bad (customer) experience. You tell yourself you’ll be at the top very soon, patience. Yet at that very same moment, the guy managing the gondola does something unexpected and unrequired of his position. He presses play on his phone, and sure enough, upbeat music - some called it aprés ski music - was booming through the cabin speakers (at a reasonable volume). He then proceeds to inform us, that if we are grumpy, we’d have to change gondola because this one, this was the fun gondola! Mid-way up, when we went over the pole, he hypes everybody up and people let their inner child out, doing the “oooooooh” when the gondola goes over the post. You know what cheer I mean, we’ve all been kids. Not long after, quizzed about the singer of the last song, a full grown adult cheers on winning some gummy bears. Needless to say, that gondola ride was shorter than everybody expected and fun even if the cabin was packed 😊 Everybody left with a smile just because of that one person who decided to cheer us up even if he did not need to 💪 Thanks to Dany (?) of the Rothorn II for the smiles on Gondola 2 aka the “fun gondola” 😊 🚠 That’s why I loved skiing in📍 Lenzerheide Bergbahnen AG ⛷️ #customerexperience #skiing #swissalps #lenzerheide #cx #human2human #switzerland #hospitality #travelandtourism #makingadifference

Verbier, Switzerland Verbier might be one of those places which needs no introduction, but let's take this opportunity to bust a few of the common myths surrounding this celebrated Swiss ski resort. Firstly, that it's just a posh hangout for minor royals, England rugby players and James Blunt. Blunt even has a lift named after him, and it's still the only ski resort we've ever visited where one of the major ski schools is sponsored by an asset management firm. But Verbier is also home to Xavier de le Rue, arguably the most talented freerider ever to strap on a snowboard, Geraldine Fastnacht, a pioneering female wingsuit pilot, and the Verbier Xtreme—the annual finale of the Freeride World Tour, and the gnarliest on-snow contest anywhere in the world. One reason they all choose to base themselves here is the easily accessible backcountry, which is among the most challenging anywhere in Switzerland, and indeed the world. Verbier also has one of the world's largest ski areas, with the lifts from the main village offering access to a huge network that links La Tzoumaz, Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon. Together, they form what's known as the 4 Vallées, which is home to some of the best skiing you'll find anywhere in Europe, along with some of the longest ski runs anywhere in the world. Verbier isn't cheap but then which ski resort in Switzerland is. The wallet-friendly Mont Fort, a hang out favored by locals, is a good place to start, while Le Chable, at the bottom of the valley is usually pretty competitively priced when it comes to accommodation. Consider 67 Pall Mall a new members-only club which has the resort’s only micro-brewery and a wine list offering thousands of wines (including 1,000 from Switzerland). Membership fees start from around £2,500 per year. In all seriousness, if you're counting every penny, you're missing the point of Verbier. The reason all those rich and famous folk love it here is the combination of incredible restaurants, epic powder, and some of the most naturally exciting slopes - both on and off-piste - you'll find anywhere on the planet.
