For most of us women, friendship is an important part of our lives. For some it may be as important as finding a soulmate. And sometimes that soulmate may be the “bestie” as my now 14-year-old granddaughter says is the right way to refer to a best friend. “LinkedIn used to be about career only. Your private life wasn’t relevant there. Why post about this topic?” A question I received in response to my previous post about people without kids being judged on LinkedIn. Those of us who create products/services/entertainment for people without kids and to raise awareness use LinkedIn to network. Who else is on LinkedIn? Human rights organizations, and educators/companies who champion reproductive autonomy. There are a lot of professional opportunities linked to the childfree topic. Content creators need engagement on their posts and profiles to be seen, and when childfree people are too nervous due to potential pushback for their life choices/circumstances, that hurts content creators' efforts. #childfree #prochoice

Celebrating the Strength and Potential of the Girl Child As we mark the International Day of the Girl Child, we must reflect on the challenges girls face and reaffirm our commitment to their empowerment. It’s heartbreaking that in many parts of the world, the girl child is often one of the most endangered, unable to walk freely without fear—simply because of her gender. This reality must change. To every girl out there: There is no human above you. The fact that you are a girl does not make you inferior; it makes you unique, resilient, and capable of greatness. Being a girl should never determine where you can go, who you can be, or what you can achieve. You can be anything because you are powerful—being a girl is no limitation. It's time to erase the harmful stereotypes of likability and passivity. You do not have to bend or conform for acceptance. Bend only when you choose to, when it serves you. The world must give the girl child a fair chance at life, just as her male counterparts receive. Some girls are comfortable in the background, and that’s okay. But for those of us who wish to be seen, heard, and make an impact—give us that chance. We don’t ask for privilege, just equal opportunity. Motherhood is what makes us uniquely different from men. Now, not every woman is called to be a mother physically, but to some degree, we are called to nurture the hearts of humanity, which is a form of motherhood. And so yes, there is a physical call for us to be mothers (I myself am a mom of eight), but we also need to restore our role as nurturers in society. We have to stop trying to make mothers second-class citizens in our culture as though they are less important than somebody who's perhaps working. And no, it is not either/or. Mothers today need the support that they need. We need to revere motherhood, and we need to start giving the level of respect that mothers need and deserve in order to thrive. Motherhood is essential for the flourishing of society and not just to give life and bring life biologically, but also breathe life into people. And so no, we're not replacing motherhood with birthing parents and chest feeders. Mothers need to be protected. And this is what we ought to do to reclaim womanhood.
