With interstate closures, out-of-service rail lines and nearly 600 roads closed or impassable in the wake of Hurricane Helene, moving goods into and out of affected regions remains challenging. While the initial shock was severe — with the volume of shipments declining as much as 34% in Florida and Georgia on a week-over-week basis — we're starting to see recovery. FourKites data shows that shipments destined for Florida, Georgia and South Carolina plummeted more than 25% on a week-over-week basis in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Helene. By Tuesday, September 29, shipment volumes had largely recovered for the majority of states in the storm's path — with Florida seeing a 20% week-over-week increase. FourKites will continue to track the impact of tropical storms and hurricanes on global supply chain operations — make sure to follow and stay tuned for further updates. #data #HurricaneHelene #Florida #supplychain

🌪️ Freight Shipping in Hurricane Season: Supporting Our Communities 🚚 Hurricane Helene reminded us of the devastating impact hurricanes can have—displacing families, damaging homes, and disrupting local economies. Our hearts go out to all those affected, and we stand in solidarity with them as they rebuild. Now, as we prepare for Hurricane Milton, it’s important to remember the challenges that lie ahead. The uncertainty can be daunting, but we must remain vigilant and supportive. 🌧️ Route Disruptions : Heavy rains and flooding can render key transport routes impassable, leading to unexpected detours and delays. 🛑 Driver Safety : The safety of our drivers is paramount. Trucking companies often suspend operations in affected areas, creating potential shortages and backlogs. 📦 Delivery Delays : Even after the storm passes, damaged infrastructure can complicate logistics, prolonging delivery times. 📈 Increased Demand : In the aftermath, there’s often a surge in demand for essential goods, placing additional strain on available resources. 💰 Rising Costs : Supply chain disruptions can lead to increased fuel prices and shipping costs, affecting bottom lines across the industry. Effective communication and contingency planning are critical during this time. As an industry, we must be agile and prepared to adapt to the challenges posed by these natural events. #HurricaneSeason #Logistics #SupplyChain #Freight

🚨 Hurricane Helene is picking up steam and is expected to hit Florida on Thursday as a massive Category 4 hurricane. The storm could bring 20-foot storm surges along the coast and pack winds of 130+ mph. Georgia, the Carolinas, and much of the Southeast are also preparing for serious impacts like flooding and power outages. Evacuations are already happening across Florida, and people are being urged to wrap up their prep ASAP. 💡 Why It Matters: For the transportation and logistics industry, hurricanes like Helene cause major disruptions—flights grounded, trucking routes blocked, and ports shut down. Add in power outages and communication blackouts, and it’s a recipe for chaos across supply chains. 🔥 Hot Take: These extreme weather events are only getting worse. It’s time for logistics companies to prioritize disaster preparedness and build resilient systems. Staying agile is the name of the game. Stay safe, everyone! #HurricaneHelene #Logistics #SupplyChain Read more at CNN: https://lnkd.in/eZJ__BKd

Although Hurricane Francine has passed over Louisiana, power outages and damage to local infrastructure have disrupted the movement of goods across the state. What's happening? ⏱️ Delays are expected for both inbound and outbound shipments as the state recovers from the damage. 📦 Pickup and delivery services are being coordinated in New Orleans, Lafayette, and Los Angeles. However, LA markets are expected to be affected for the rest of the week due to local restrictions and weather conditions. What can I do? 📝 With delays likely to increase as capacity tightens, our teams have been assisting OEMs and suppliers with LCL and air transport solutions to minimize the impact. Key freight markets in Florida are expected to experience significant disruptions as Hurricane Milton is forecasted to hit the state's Gulf coast Wednesday night. Large cities within the storm's path are Tampa and Orlando, both in the top 25 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S. As is the case before a hurricane, truckload demand has spiked as a probable function of shippers' trying to make a last-second push to get freight out of the region. However, also typical in this scenario, capacity has reportedly tightened as many carriers have turned away loads in the days leading up to the storm. Just like Hurricane Helene's impacts to Florida's Big Bend region as well as to western North Carolina, Milton threatens a similar fate to central and southern Florida's truckload market as residual damage to infrastructure and immediate demand to move emergency aid are increasingly likely in the storm's aftermath. Commerce Express Inc. will monitor the situation closely and provide relevant updates to customers as it relates to their freight needs. . . . #hurricane #milton #severeweather #trucking #truckload #FTL #LTL #logistics #logisticscompany #CommerceExpressInc

Norfolk Southern line into Asheville, N.C., to be closed at least three months. Trains.com ATLANTA — Norfolk Southern says its line between Asheville, N.C., and Newport, Tenn. — heavily damaged by Hurricane Helene — will be out of service until at least late January, while assessment of the route between Ashville and Old Fort, N.C., is ongoing. In the area hardest hit in late September, on the AS Line between Salisbury, N.C., and Morristown, Tenn., assessments have determined that approximately 21,500 feet of track have been washed out, with more than 50,000 feet damaged by scour and another 15,000 feet of fill failure and slides. Multiple bridges have also been damaged. The segments between Morristown and Newport, and between Salisbury and Old Fort, have been reopened even though public roadways remained unavailable in some areas. The remote nature and mountain topography, coupled with conditions following the storm and resulting flooding, have made it difficult to assess damage in the areas around Asheville and over Black Mountain, the railroad says. #NorfolkSouthern #HurricaneHelene #NorthCarolina #Tennessee #railtransportation #shipping https://lnkd.in/ggKc6YMs
