Today is World Population Day 🌏 This year’s theme ‘To leave No One Behind, Count Everyone’ focuses on the role that population data, analysis and use has played on shaping the future of our communities. 📈 It asks us to reflect on the communities that remain underrepresented in data, and how this impacts their lives and wellbeing. It’s an opportunity to think about what more we can do to ensure everyone is seen and embraced in the development of our places and spaces. 🔑 As planners, we hold the keys to helping unlock more inclusive, welcoming and diverse places for everyone - and we proudly celebrate the role that planning plays in shaping the future of our growing communities. #WorldPopulationDay #inclusiveplanning #planningmatters #planningwithcountry

How can you achieve a higher banding within the Tackling Inequalities? Your management team may benefit from producing a facility-specific business plan to assess demographic data, determine target groups and support people experiencing inequalities within your local community! Researching local demographic information may offer a clearer picture of what population groups in the community need support. You could undertake a non-user survey to show who is not using the facility and why. Your facility may also benefit from making use of the ‘Moving Communities’ website and tools in order to inform their strategy and plans in relation to tackling inequalities - https://lnkd.in/dWXv2fC. We know that one of the biggest challenges developers face when carrying out planning consultations is the fact that demographics who are receptive to change are usually the silent majority and do not participate in traditional consultations. 🏘 You may have seen that LandTech have recently acquired another business called Give My View that’s sole goal is to allow you as a developer to reach the silent majority and hear their thoughts! So how does it work? 🚀 Give My View is a community engagement platform 🚀 They reach out to more diverse communities giving the silent majority a voice 🚀 They have a track record of increased levels of engagement from your usual 10s to 100s or 1000s 🚀Using social tools like Meta they can expand your reach and get you a wealth of balanced data If this is something that may be of interest to you, drop me a message and I can introduce you to the team! The Evolution of Family: Celebrating Diversity and Fostering Inclusion In recent years, we've witnessed a profound transformation in the structure and understanding of family. Less than one in five families currently resembles a nuclear family (https://lnkd.in/djDMGz3A) in the United States and societies across the globe are moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach to family, embracing instead the myriad forms that love and commitment can take. As a passionate supporter of the Modern Family Institute (MoFI), I've seen firsthand the incredible work being done to explore and advocate for the evolving nature of families. MoFI is dedicated to expanding the definition of family beyond the traditional nuclear model, acknowledging the diverse and dynamic ways people come together to create units of love, support, and mutual care. This mission resonates deeply with me, reflecting the vibrant tapestry of relationships that form the bedrock of our communities. The concept of the nuclear family—often depicted as a married couple living with their biological children — only emerged as a dominant societal ideal in the mid-20th century, particularly in Western societies. This portrayal oversimplifies the rich tapestry of family structures that have existed throughout history and across cultures. From extended families living under one roof to community-based rearing of children, the ways in which humans have organized family life are as diverse as society itself. From single-parent households and blended families to cohabiting communities and polyamorous relationships, the concept of family is being redefined to capture the essence of connection and care, rather than mere biological or legal ties. MoFI's focus on research, public education, policy, and clinical practice is critical in fostering an inclusive environment where every family configuration is recognized and supported. I would like to quote the two founders of this project for their dedication and the message delivered: “In our journey with the Modern Family Institute, we've been driven by a vision that honours the complexity and richness of human connections. The evolution of family is not just about recognizing diversity; it's about embracing it as a source of strength, resilience, and love. As we chart this path forward, our goal is to cultivate a society where every family, regardless of its structure, is seen, supported, and celebrated. Joining hands with MoFI means advocating for a world where love defines family, not just legal or biological ties.” Dr. Heath Schechinger and Dr. Lily Lamboy, PhD, Co-founders of MoFI. Please share within your network to support and increase the visibility of this noble cause.
