Partnering with a leading pharmaceutical company, we took on the challenge of creating a drug delivery device for an intra-muscular OTC product. The device had to enable two fluids to be stored separately, while providing the patient with an intuitive mixing mechanism that also allowed for easy inspection of the combined drug product before injection. To tackle this complex issue, our teams across design, human factors, engineering, and prototyping worked in synergy to deliver impactful solutions, including: • 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: We converted a complex set of project specifications into a set of digestible concepts for future development, streamlining the design process. • 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗣 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲: Our teams identified novel solutions that enabled us to stand out in a highly competitive and patented field. • 𝗥𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: We translated concept sketches into technically feasible solutions, providing a range of aesthetic options that met both functional and user needs. • 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The final design minimised handling errors and contamination risks, ensuring safety and reliability for patients. The result was a patient-centred device that not only solved the complex challenge of fluid separation and mixing but also improved overall patient adherence and experience.
