There are many partnership types, each falls on a continuum between 'highly transactional/low touch' and 'highly strategic/high touch.' As you build partnering programs, pick an engagement model that is aligned with the level of oversight needed. As partners move up the continuum towards the 'strategic/high touch' side, poor recruiting becomes very costly. If your program is heavily dependent on truly strategic partners, don't focus on getting signed partner agreements, get productive partners. This is done by developing a disciplined process to understand your solution's ideal partner persona and only contracting with candidates where significant mutual alignment exists within strategy and value creation.
