When considering the cost of replacing your shingle roof, several key factors come into play. The size of your roof is a primary determinant, as larger roofs require more materials and labor. The type of shingles you choose also impacts the cost, with options ranging from basic asphalt to premium architectural styles. Additionally, the condition of the existing roof structure can affect pricing, particularly if repairs are needed before installation. Labor costs, which vary by region and contractor, are another crucial element. For a personalized estimate and expert advice, call Gold Seal Roofing today for a free consultation. When you have a fire rated wall, let’s say it’s a gypsum wall, and it comes under a concrete deck, we all know the building code requires us to firestop that. But what about the bottom of that wall? Do we have to firestop THAT? Well, if you go to IBC 715.3 it says joints installed in or between fire-resistance rated walls, floors or floor/ceiling assemblies…shall be protected by an approved fire-resistant-joint system…. It gives a bunch of exceptions, but the bottom of wall is not one of them. I have heard valid arguments that suggest bottom of wall should be added to this list, but shaft walls would of course be the exception to this. Check in tomorrow and I will share a discussion about #BuildBetter #FirestopCoffeeBreakTraining

There are many steps of a build process that can increase the risk to a wood floor. Long construction periods between installation and permanent heating systems being commissioned mean that floors can pick up too much moisture before being dried too rapidly causing gaps, splits, and delamination occurring just before project handover. The Fidbox® measures and monitors the effect of each step of the process, and helps make sure that everyone does what they should do to protect the flooring. The Fidbox® helps prevent problems and provides the data to show who is at fault if problems do occur. 🟥🟥🟥 📧 hello@fidbox.co.uk 🌐 https://lnkd.in/eDqVuxpX #fidbox #woodflooring #flooring #underfloorheating #underfloorheatingsystem #hardwoodflooring #floordesign #floorinstallation #flooringexpert #flooringspecialist

Strapping Walls 🔨 What is wall strapping? It’s the action of extending an existing wall closer to you while keeping it as a singular frame. There are lots of situations where strapping is needed. Closing the gap between a shower pan/bathtub and the wall, accomodating space for HVAC, making slight adjustments in the framing for other entities (and more). Usually sheet material is used, but two-by material on the flat is used as well. A skillsaw is used to rip the material into the desired width and length strips. The thickness of the strapping changes from case to case, typically it ranges from 1/2” to 1 1/2” thick. In this example the wall was strapped to eliminate the gap between the bathtub and the wall. #Construction #Carpentry #Newbuild #BackFraming

Did you know? Portions of a wood-framed structure that are subject to damage by decay, the code mandates that the lumber be pressure-preservative treated or be naturally durable wood or be of a species of wood having a natural resistance to decay. IRC section 317.1 lists 7 different areas where treated wood or equivalent naturally durable wood must be used. One of those areas is wood structural members supporting moisture-permeable floors or roofs that are exposed to the weather, such as concrete or masonry slabs, unless separated from such floors or roofs by an impervious moisture barrier. #BuildingCodes #TreatedWood #WolmanizedOutdoorWood #Preservative
