We often try to mask actual problems with fancy nonprofit words. We don’t want to say “poor” so we say “impoverished.” “Hungry” is out so we use “food-poor.” (Should that actually be “food-impoverished?”) We make people think when we use words or phrases that aren’t common. Confusion reduces conversions. Tell me in the comments below what words we use to complicate things. Here’s two that get my vote (I’m guilty of these): We ask people to give to “programs” instead of describing the problem their donation will solve. We say your donation will provide “hope” when in essence, that has no standard meaning. If I’m hungry, I need food, not hope.
