🇱🇺 Luxembourg is indeed a diverse country with a significant foreign population, making up almost half of the total population. It's fascinating to see the multiculturalism and the various nationalities contributing to the country's prosperity. The top 5 largest foreign communities in Luxembourg are Portuguese, French, Italians, Belgians, and Germans. It's impressive how multilingualism plays a crucial role in everyday life, allowing people to communicate effectively in different languages!! Walk down any street in a Luxembourgish city, and you'll see and hear it: Luxembourg hosts large foreign communities, including descendants of 19th and 20th-century migrants, expatriates, and those who, visiting Luxembourg, have decided to stay. In total, 47.3% of the population is foreign, almost half. 170 nationalities are currently registered in the country!! Moreover, every working day, around 228,400 cross-border workers commute from France, Germany, or Belgium to Luxembourg to work and contribute to the country's prosperity! So, it's entirely normal to order your meal in French or contact a company in German 😊 And if you don't speak any of these languages, you'll almost always find someone to assist you in your language – long live multilingualism! Here are the top 5 largest foreign communities in Luxembourg, in terms of the total population percentage: NATIONALITY NUMBER OF NATIONALS PERCENTAGE : 🇵🇹Portuguese__93,659__14.5% 🇫🇷French__49,071__7.6% 🇮🇹Italians__23,881 __3.7% 🇧🇪Belgians__19,692__3.1% 🇩🇪Germans__12,906__2% In terms of the proportion of foreigners among the population, the City of Luxembourg is at the top, with 70.8%! Yesterday, together with some colleagues from EURAXESS Estonia network, we participated at the Settle in Estonia mini conference about the relocation support activities in Estonia. By 'mini' I only mean the length of the event, though, as it was a very rich day in content, as well as in the profile of participants, everyone dedicated to welcoming the newly arrived people to Estonia. For me, it was mostly about gaining and refreshing contacts for further planning with some partners, but here are just some takeaways, from programme or from coffee breaks: ✔️What may seem expensive or resource consuming in the short term - e.g. as personal relocation service as possible - may mean huge cost-efficiency for the whole society in the long term. But how to get quality research results to back these hypotheses, and the politicians on board to consider them in decisions, remains a challenge. ✔️Migration is always a challenge mentally, but even more so for the forced immigrants. We cannot expect each one to adapt to the new circumstances in the same way. For some, therapy is needed, but with mental health service being unavailable even for locals, on other occasions e.g. connecting with locals with the same interests/hobbies, or just a neighbour that listens, may already mean a huge step towards adaptation. Crash course for locals, for providing first aid by Kaia Kastepõld-Tõrs here: (https://lnkd.in/dzy2avPw) ✔️We just have to learn from the challenging experiences of other countries and put the best strategies in place to build a cohesive society. ✔️Flexible ways for learning the local language are among the key factors for bringing the communities closer together. ✔️More awareness of the cultural background of the people arriving allows us to express our own specificity more fluently to them in return. And we have to explain our own rules and expectations in a clear and friendly manner, for managing everybody´s expectations. ✔️Me peame rääkima keeleõppijatega ise eesti keelt, ja mitte tormama parandama neid igal ajahetkel (selleks on oma koht ja aeg, kõneleja soovil). ❗️My biggest wish is that by whatever route a person who is interested in Estonian research (and innovation) ecosystem arrives, each and every partner service provider would know to direct them to euraxess@etag.ee, even if just for the initial contact for specific information about this part of our country, 'small in size, great for research' ( Research in Estonia) Jekaterina Mordassova; Janika Hango; Eesti Pagulasabi / Estonian Refugee Council; Integratsiooni Sihtasutus; Eesti Töötukassa, Tallinna Rändekeskus jt...

Seven Characteristics for Thriving when Returning from Abroad I have debriefed hundred of expats. Some navigate repatriation with resilience. Some struggle. And some wish they had never returned. Here are seven characteristics that I have seen in the ones who repatriate and navigate the transition well: 1. Adaptability: The ability to adjust to new situations and environments is crucial. Successful repatriates can shift their expectations and adapt their behaviors to align with their home country’s culture, just as they did when they initially moved abroad. 2. Open-mindedness: Keeping an open mind helps returning expats embrace changes that may have occurred at home during their absence. This quality also aids in re-adapting to their home culture without harsh judgments. 3. Proactive Communication: Effective communication skills are vital. Those who actively seek to reconnect with old networks and establish new connections often find the transition smoother. They communicate their experiences and changed perspectives clearly to bridge any gaps with colleagues, friends, and family. 4. Patience: Patience is a virtue, especially when readjusting to life back home. Understanding that it takes time to settle back into a familiar yet changed environment can reduce frustration and prevent the rush to judgment about the new state of things. 5. Reflective Skills: Those who reflect on their experiences abroad and what they've learned are better at applying these insights back home. This reflection helps them integrate their international experiences into their personal and professional lives effectively. 6. Resilience: Repatriation can come with unexpected emotional and practical challenges. Resilient expats can manage stress and bounce back from setbacks more easily, using their skills honed from overcoming challenges abroad. 7. Cultural Sensitivity: Having heightened cultural sensitivity helps returning expats understand and sympathize with both the culture they left behind and the one they are re-entering. This sensitivity can prevent potential misunderstandings and conflicts. These characteristics not only aid in personal adjustment but also enhance professional effectiveness upon returning, helping expats reintegrate into workplaces that may have evolved in their absence. #expats #repatriation #debriefing

Immigration meets Sustainability We can confidently say that today all industries are focused on sustainable development. Tech is leading this transformation. Major companies and innovative startups constantly develop new technologies to enable sustainable practices. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development recognises how migration greatly supports sustainable growth. Immigrants contribute to professional communities with their expertise, investments, and cultural diversity. This enhances both their new destinations and home countries by sharing experiences and resources. In the past five years, global immigration in tech has played a pivotal role in advancing sustainable development. Newcomers provide fresh perspectives and expertise that open new ways for industries to transition toward zero emissions. Below, we've highlighted the benefits extensive tech immigration has already driven. 🌱 Economic Growth Transition to sustainable development requires strong economic capabilities. The situation in the US market, a leading destination for tech immigration, shows how newcomers can bolster economic growth essential for reaching the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030: 🍀 Immigrants founded or held key management positions in 55% of Silicon Valley startups valued above $1 billion; 🍀 36% of total innovation in the US is attributed to immigrants; 🍀 Technology professionals, engineers, and mathematicians with H1-B visas brought from 30 to 50% of the total growth in US economic output starting from 1990. 🌱 Social and Cultural Benefits With versatile backgrounds, immigrants drive fresh perspectives and diverse points of view on sustainable solutions. As immigrants integrate into society, they bring unique experiences and practices that enhance cultural diversity. This enriches local cultures, as well as builds a common ground and appreciation among peers. The presence of these diverse communities streamlines technological innovation, driving forward sustainable development. Immigram is proud to be a part of this mindful stream. We have already helped over 500 professionals to reach their dream destination and bring their expertise to benefit the global environment. Through our journey, we are eager to support more and more talents to contribute to a better sustainable future. Over the past fortnight I've been visiting clients who who have made the move back to Australia. Here are common reasons among them for their return to Australia: 🔹 Aging parents 🔹 Children starting primary or secondary school 🔹 Job opportunity too good to refuse 🔹 Redundancy in Singapore or elsewhere abroad 🔹 Rising cost of living in expat hubs like Singapore 🔹 Missing the Australian lifestyle The common thread amongst many of these..? They're not within our control. Planning for repatriation is always an important part of the plan, even if you have no 'intention' of returning any time soon. You never quite know when Australia may come knocking. #AustralianExpats #AussieExpats #AustraliansAbroad #AustralianExpatFinancialPlanner #JarradBrown

🌟 Considering #relocation? Given the recent changes lets #compare #Greece #goldenvisa with #malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP)! 🌍 Are you #exploring #opportunities for #residency in Europe? Let's delve deeper into two enticing options: Greece's Golden Visa and Malta's Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP). Greece's recent amendment to its Golden Visa legislation, raising the investment threshold for third-country citizens to €800,000, aims to address the housing crisis while balancing investment incentives. This shift in policy direction signifies a proactive approach to societal challenges. However, critics argue it may exacerbate affordability concerns. In contrast, Malta's MPRP offers a structured pathway to residency with an array of compelling benefits. Beneficiaries can settle permanently, enjoy visa-free Schengen travel for 90 out of 180 days, and access Malta's real estate market affordably. Additionally, applicants can include up to four generations in one application, fostering family cohesion. Eligibility for Malta's programme hinges on financial stability, clean records, and a commitment to reside in Malta. While the administrative fee stands at €40,000, the investment requirements provide flexibility. Applicants must either rent a property for a minimum of €10,000 in the South of Malta/Gozo or €12,000 in the rest of Malta, or purchase a property valued at a minimum of €300,000 in the South of Malta/Gozo or €350,000 in the rest of Malta. Moreover, a government contribution of €28,000 for property purchase or €58,000 for property lease is mandatory. Considering financial aspects, Greece's Golden Visa may cater to those seeking higher-value property acquisitions. However, Malta's MPRP offers a more accessible entry point with its lower financial thresholds, making it an attractive option for individuals and families alike. Ultimately, the choice between Greece's Golden Visa and Malta's MPRP hinges on individual preferences, financial capabilities, and long-term relocation goals. Both programmes present unique advantages, empowering you to make an informed decision aligned with your aspirations. 🏡✈️ #goldenvisa #residencybyinvestment #permanentresidence #europeanresidency #investmentmigration #immigration

𝗨𝗦, 𝗨𝗞, 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮, 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆, & 𝗨𝗔𝗘: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀? Every year, approximately 𝟮.𝟱 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 Indians embark on the journey of migrating abroad, making India the leading source of immigrants globally. The global landscape of Indian immigration has undergone significant transformation. Destinations like 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻, once highly attractive to Indian immigrants, have seen a decline in interest. According to the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 𝗕𝗖𝗚 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆 (as seen in the image below), these countries, which ranked 5th, 6th, and 8th respectively in 2014, have experienced a drop, now holding 7th, 9th, and 10th positions in 2023. This visual highlights the evolving preferences of Indian immigrants over the past decade. While the US, UK, and Canada have remained consistent top destinations, countries like Germany and Australia have gained traction. Australia, in particular, emerged as the leading destination for Indian immigrants in 2023, surpassing Canada and Germany. 𝗦𝗼, 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗼𝘄? The top 4 destinations for Indian immigrants—𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀, 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗱𝗼𝗺, 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆—have remained relatively stable. Additionally, 𝗨𝗔𝗘 has solidified its position as a premier hub for Indian job seekers, with an impressive 𝟯.𝟱𝟱 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 Indian residents as of July 2024. This growth is primarily driven by its 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 Looking ahead to 2025, Australia is positioned to become a rising destination of choice for Indian immigrants. Australia has made significant strides, moving up from 6th position in 2014 to 1st in 2023. The 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰-𝟮𝟱 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 highlights several key developments: • 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀 have seen a substantial increase, rising from 𝟯𝟲,𝟴𝟮𝟱 to 𝟰𝟰,𝟬𝟬𝟬. • 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀 also grew modestly, from 𝟯𝟮,𝟯𝟬𝟬 to 𝟯𝟯,𝟬𝟬𝟬. • 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲/𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗡𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀 have seen a boost, from 𝟯𝟬,𝟰𝟬𝟬 to 𝟯𝟯,𝟬𝟬𝟬. • Notably, the 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 (𝗕𝗜𝗜𝗣) and 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮 are being phased out in favor of the new 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮, which will offer a permanent pathway for outstanding investors and entrepreneurs. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁? As global economic and political landscapes continue to shift, new destinations may emerge as top choices for Indian immigrants. Countries like 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻 and 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 are becoming increasingly attractive for skilled professionals, as reflected in their rising ranks in 2023. Where do you think Indian immigrants will head next?
