🚀 “With the world on the cusp of an AI revolution, Europe cannot afford to remain stuck in the technologies of the previous century.” (Mario Draghi). In our Quantum Workshop, we discussed this and other reasons for users to buy into quantum technology at our most recent event, the European Deeptech Forum 2024. 💡 And wow, the insights were powerful! 1️⃣ Language is the first step towards deconstructing imagined barriers. To truly “Europeanize” Quantum technologies, we must stop specifying nationalities in every other sentence when talking about developers, companies, researchers. 2️⃣ As of now, we have a competitive advantage over the US when it comes to quantum computing. But to keep that edge, we need to keep pushing: investments, research and collaborations are crucial. 3️⃣ Many quantum ventures are build like academic labs that naturally transitioning into a firm — and academia, is by default international. That means, Quantum firms are international from the start, and scaling them could pave the way for a truly European deeptech success story. 4️⃣ However, bureaucracy does not make that as easy as we would hope. Officials often don't know the matter well enough to grant funding where it is truly necessary or wise. 5️⃣ Also, some European regulations may result in stifling innovation by prescribing certain routes to solve problems or how to build products, instead of setting goals and letting science and efficiency sort out the best way forward. 6️⃣ Finally, quantum computing could be commercialized as soon as 2028. First, we need to finance big machines, sort out the deep physics behind the technology, and focus on exponential speed up. We must unlock our innovative potential NOW to not fall behind. 👥 A big thank you to our speakers Théau Peronnin of Alice & Bob, Julian van Velzen of Capgemini , Fanny Bouton of OVHcloud, Christian Schaffner of q-soft and Quantum.Amsterdam, Christophe Thioux of Equinix and Ton van 't Noordende of QDNL Participations. And finally our moderator Ingrid Romijn of Q*BIRD B.V., quantum expert herself, who asked just the right questions. #event #tech #european #deeptechforum #innovation #networking

What a great week I just had at Singularity University, from engaging discussions on technologies to hands-on workshops that challenged my thinking, this experience has truly broadened my horizons. I had the privilege of connecting with brilliant minds from diverse backgrounds, all united by a shared passion for leveraging technology to solve some of the world's most pressing challenges. Here are some takeaways: 1. Quantum Computing: The potential of quantum computing is nothing short of revolutionary. It’s fascinating to see how it can solve complex problems at unprecedented speeds, paving the way for breakthroughs in various fields, from cryptography to drug discovery. The future is quantum! 2.Artificial Intelligence: AI continues to reshape our world in profound ways. The discussions around ethical AI and its impact on society were particularly enlightening. It’s crucial that as we innovate, we also prioritize responsible development to ensure technology serves humanity positively. 3.Biotech : Important discussions as it plays a crucial role in enhancing human capabilities, improving health, and potentially merging biology with technology. Advances in genetic engineering, synthetic biology, and personalized medicine could lead to breakthroughs that significantly extend human lifespan and enhance cognitive functions. The intersection of biotech and AI could accelerate innovation, enabling solutions to complex problems and transforming industries. However, this also raises ethical concerns and challenges regarding safety, equity, and the definition of what it means to be human. 4. Space Technology Opportunities: We were able to explore the various avenues and potential for innovation within the space industry. The work highlights emerging technologies, the role of private companies, and the importance of international collaboration in advancing space exploration. It also discusses the economic and scientific benefits of investing in space technology, emphasizing how these advancements can address global challenges and inspire future generations. Overall, the piece advocates for a proactive approach to harnessing the opportunities presented by the rapidly evolving space sector. 5.Collaboration and Innovation : The power of collaboration was evident throughout the week. The Danish AI and Quantum community just got even stronger! Yesterday the NN Foundation and EIFO announced the appointment of Nadia Carlsten, PhD as CEO of the Danish Centre for AI Innovation (DCAI). DCAI owns and operates Gefion, Denmark’s first AI supercomputer, where Nadia will bring important overseas commercialisation expertise within AI and quantum technologies. Together with the existing Danish Pioneer Centre for AI, things are looking very bright for our research ecosystem, which will accelerate AI-driven research and innovation within healthcare, quantum computing, and the green transition. BUT this is not enough on its own. Lots of startups within the Danish Quantum Community and strong academics are fantastic but where’s the risk-willing VCs and larger corporates? Our many strong foundations are doing phenomenal work getting this off the ground but we all have a role to play to secure the success of the ecosystem.
