Of the more than 1,000 respondents in Australia, New Zealand and the United States, Lime Access customers were "five times as likely as non-subsidised riders (35% versus 7%) to use shared scooters and bicycles for daily travel. They were twice as likely to use them for essential trips (such as shopping or commuting) and to connect with public transport (44% versus 23%). 50% said it allowed them to 'get somewhere without a car'. E-mobility schemes support transport equity and return strong social dividends. Especially when combined with healthier street infrastructure ie share paths, quiet streets, reduced speed limits and separated cycleways.

Ticket to ride! Subsidised bike and scooter rentals win over low-income users 🎫🚲🛴🎫 People on lower incomes use micromobility services including bikes and scooters like they use public transport if the price is right, research out of Victoria has found. The independent research focused on micromobility provider Lime’s Access program, that offers 70-80% discounted rates to low-income users like pensioners, students and the unemployed. It found Access users opted for micromobility devices like e-scooters and e-bikes for essential journeys such as shopping and commuting rather than leisure reasons. Alexa Delbosc, associate professor at the Institute of Transport Studies in the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Monash University, led the research and told WestCycle the findings demonstrated the latent potential micromobility offered active travel. “Public transport is subsidised around the world – why not shared scooters and bikes?” Dr Delbosc said. There are so many good ideas for public transport in city area’s The CAT bus is one of my favourites & these new Electric buses are amazing as we are transitioning to zero-emission for public transport in Western Australia & these are also made in Malaga, WA, that’s great, I love that! Another Idea that I like is an (only for locals) exclusive for residents, ratepayers & voters in our city | Resident Bike Share Service I’m not suggeting free, I’m thinking exclusive & as a point of difference & reward for being a City of Perth person … a Perthonality! What if @cityofperth had an exclusive Resident Bike Share Service! People love to cycle, but don’t always trust parking their bike in public or don’t have it with them! So locals could cycle the entire City of Perth area with 100% electric bicycle and just enjoy more of what we love already in our beautiful outdoors this could include #perthcbd #northbridge #claisebrook #nedlands #eastperth #westperth #nedlands #crawley #perthcity Electric is also good because, we do have a few hills in our city and all over our beautiful neighbourhoods & zero-emission to help us up a hill, after a long day at work, there is nothing wrong with that! How it works? Sign up | Registration is free Choose your bike Plan your journey Return your bike safely for the next person Bikes could be kept, taken from & returned to little stations or parklet all over our city & with an app, just like our EasyPark app to check availability, grab your bike and then just enjoy your journey, getting around the city, going to work or to catch up with friends instead of using a taxi, bus or uber In some cities they do this, Barcelona is one & they call theses “+P stations” You can take a bike from the +P places and use the app to start the rental & later on whe you arrive, just park the bike back in the +P location near where you finish your journey, lower the stand and pop the lock on the rear wheel and completed the rental on the app, that’s it! Perhaps one of the Rental Scooter Companies could take this on when the scooter trial finishes & maybe a Resident Bike Share Service trial could start for 6 months or a year to see which one of these services works best, is safer & more enjoyable in our city In position 4 on the ballot, when you read all about me I am not focused on who I am or what I’ve done My passion is for what I will do next Vote 1 Dave Lee #daveinperth Authorised by Dave Lee, 1324 Hay Street West Perth WA 6005

In fact, according to #Bolt latest scooter rider survey across 14 countries: 🚏 50% of shared scooter riders paused their rides to stop at a local business ☕ 48% cited easy scooter parking as a key reason to stop by restaurants, cafes, and shops 💰 50% of riders made a purchase in some venue during their last 5 trips 💳 €46 euros was the average spend for these purchases 🛴 30% of the trips would not have been made if no scooter was available As we celebrate #EuropeanMobilityWeek with the theme of Shared Public Spaces, it's clear: shared scooters don’t just move people—they move the economy! You are a lucky guy if car-sharing services are unavailable near your home. That means you live in a calm, peaceful neighbourhood, far from overcrowded big cities. The mortgage or rent price in your place may also be more affordable. The density of residences directly affects the availability of car-sharing in particular areas. Fewer people may use vehicles, which means less profit. That's why it is a significant factor for car-sharing providers launching services. In the Netherlands, GreenWheel car-sharing for round trips operates everywhere where NS (Dutch Railways) operates. However, free-floating shared vehicles for one-way tips are available only in cities with a population of more than 500,000 inhabitants. Nevertheless, if there is no car-sharing provider in your city or town, you can still use a community car. You need to find 6-12 neighbours who want to participate in this initiative. Companits like Deel (wijzijndeel) and OnzeAuto helps to orgonize shared car access. The more neighbours are involved, the lower prices for usage and maintenance will be possible. #wijzijndeel #onzeAuto #urbanPlanning #smartCities #community

This is a measured response with an equity lens focus for all users of our public transportation system. Also helps that Metrolinx has already been field-testing this policy since April 2024. "A ban on e-bikes and e-scooters on the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) would disproportionately affect low-income individuals and marginalized groups with limited transportation options, according to an equity report published by the transit agency's chief people and culture officer. "For low-income individuals in particular, e-bikes are a readily available and affordable form of commuting," Shakira Naraine wrote in her report, which will be discussed at the TTC board meeting on Tuesday. "Alternatives such as public transit, manual bicycles or scooters are viewed as less economically viable, and in some cases, less convenient, potentially increasing travel costs and negatively affecting their budgets. "The TTC board voted to put the proposed ban on hold until staff determined how such a move would impact gig workers, as well as racialized and lower income riders. In her report, Naraine suggests rather than a complete ban, the TTC impose "specific restrictions"— similar to Metrolinx's, which ban e-bikes with uncertified batteries but allow those with batteries displaying a UL or CE safety certification. Such a policy could offer "many benefits" to the TTC, including promoting accessibility, enhancing safety measures, supporting economic vitality and promoting community engagement, Naraine wrote in her report. TTC board member Coun. Dianne Saxe, Ph.D, GCB.D said she would be moving a motion at Tuesday's meeting to adopt Naraine's recommendation to be consistent with Metrolinx. - Mahdis Habibinia https://lnkd.in/gyguSb7Z h/t Lara Muldoon Cc: Cycle Toronto TCAT - The Centre for Active Transportation The Biking Lawyer LLP The Bike Brigade Supplemental Report: Equity Analysis for Seasonal Prohibition on Lithium-Ion Battery Powered E-Bikes and EScooters Date: December 3, 2024 To: TTC Board From: Chief People and Culture Officer : https://lnkd.in/gKh9zDuz
