🚨 ACTION ALERT: Take Action for Tenants against Landlord Retaliation! 🚨 Call your elected official and share this message: Vote “YES” to concur in the Senate amendment to HB 4768 to protect tenants. Calls are especially needed in calls to members of the House, especially in IL suburban/collar counties. Find your rep here: https://bit.ly/3X1QSim Modeled after the Cook County tenant landlord ordinances, HB 4768 spells out the retaliatory actions that landlords may not take against tenants, including: giving notices of nonrenewal, raising rent, decreasing services, or filing an eviction action. It expands the protected tenant activities (that are currently limited to complaining to a government authority, including their legislators) to requesting repairs, seeking assistance from a community-based organization, or exercising any right provided by law. It ensures that people do not lose their housing because they requested their landlord meet their maintenance request. This legislation does not stop a landlord from raising the rent if they can show that it is not in retaliation but for another reason, this legislation ensures people’s housing is not put into jeopardy. #Illinois #landlordretaliation #housinglaw #advocacy #HousingIsAHumanRight #EndHomelessness
