The University of Antwerp - Faculty of Business and Economics invites Wim Verbeke, Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics at UGent, to hold the #FrancquiChair 2023-2024. Professor Verbeke, an expert in agri-food marketing and consumer behavior with a background in natural (bio-engineering) and social (economic) sciences, studies the behavior of consumers and stakeholders in the agri-food sector. In his inaugural lecture, Professor Verbeke will provide a view from the perspective of agri-food marketing and consumer research on the choices made, the evolution of the research themes and agenda, the insights gained and the new questions that arise about the protein transition. These include the rise of flexitarianism, the introduction and acceptance of alternative protein sources such as insects, microalgae or cultured meat, and diversity among consumers. The lecture, entitled “A quarter century of protein transition: insights from agri-food marketing and consumer research”, will take place on Wednesday 6 March, 15.00, at the University of Antwerp. Today marked a significant milestone in my academic journey as I successfully defended my thesis on "Differences in Preferences Among Traditional vs Non-Traditional Lentil Consumers in Canada." 🌱🇨🇦 This research delves into the intricate variations in consumer preferences within the lentil market, shedding light on how traditional and non-traditional consumer segments perceive and choose lentils differently. Through rigorous analysis and insightful findings, I explored the factors influencing these preferences and their implications for the Canadian agricultural sector. I am immensely grateful to my thesis committee for their invaluable guidance and support throughout this journey. This achievement would not have been possible without the encouragement and mentorship of Dr Jill Hobbs, Dr Peter Slade Dr Simona Lubieniechi and examining Dr Yang Yang whose expertise has been instrumental in shaping my research. I look forward to continuing my contributions to the field of #agrifoodeconomics and leveraging these findings to make meaningful impacts in the agricultural and agrifood industry. 🌾 #ThesisDefense #Research #AgriculturalEconomics #ConsumerBehavior #LentilMarket #CanadianResearch #GraduateResearch #AcademicAchievement #plantProtein #UniversityofSaskatchewan #Economics #MarketResearch
