Public Domain Day Unleashes a Trove of Potential Horror Reworks for Filmmakers Each January 1st breathes new life into classic works as they enter the public domain, and this year, exploitation filmmakers are eagerly diving into the archives for their next horror masterpieces. The practice, dubbed ‘PD-sploitation’, has seen iconic characters from children’s literature to revered literary figures reimagined as figures of terror, exemplified by projects like the controversial “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey.” https://lnkd.in/eidchmr6 #winniethepoohbloodandhoney #horrormovie

Americana (White Lies) is an educational project exploring the history of racially motivated false accusations in America. Using archival footage and insightful commentary, it exposes the impact these deceptions have had on individuals and society. The project educates viewers by revealing overlooked historical events, challenging accepted narratives, and fostering critical reflection on issues of justice and racial bias. By revisiting these dark chapters, Americana (White Lies) encourages a deeper understanding of how the past continues to shape our present, making it a compelling tool for learning and meaningful discussion. @yellowbricklearn #TischxRollingStone and #yellowbrickfeature #ShortFilm #Filmmaking #IndependentFilm #SocialJustice #Storytelling #FilmDirector #BlackVoices #RacialEquality #CinemaForChange

Rising tides lift all boats. Learn how a these key Direct to Audience distribution services are recalibrating how filmmakers think about windowing their releases and measuring success. If you are able to identify your audience and invest in reaching them through marketing partnerships, paid media, PR etc - then you can become your own distributor.
"What's the difference between you (Kinema), GATHR, and Jolt?" This is a question I get on the regular from smart filmmakers developing their direct distribution strategy. So, Neil Creque Williams (Gathr), Tara Hein-Phillips (Jolt), and I are getting together to share the answers - and much more. Join us and fab moderator Jon Reiss on Thursday, November 21st, at DOC NYC. DOC NYC PRO Distribution Day: https://lnkd.in/e-KJj3BT

🎬 Historical films/ tv series can be a fun and effective way to consolidate topic knowledge for school age students. I loved getting my students to review a historical film, focussing on the accurate and inaccurate parts and commenting on key events or characters that were left out. It often led to animated classroom discussions and juicy debate, reminding students that history is subjective, usually someone’s interpretation of the past and should always be interrogated & challenged. ❓What film would you ask students aged 16-18 to critique in this way? #historyteacher #historicalfilms #empoweringstudents #innovativeteaching

I am thinking a lot about maps these days: how we create them, how they represent certain ideas and legacies. How by creating our own visual maps we can reclaim our power, through creative visualisation and imagination. How deeper visions in mapping, creating maps and presenting them amongst our communities can also reconnect us with the land, nature. Enjoyed watching this film about the power of maps and Zuni culture claiming their culture through the art of visual mapping https://lnkd.in/dhTp-2xp
