Fraser Dove International’s Post

𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐔𝐩: 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬, 𝐀 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 It is almost 10 years since McKinsey began its annual Women in the Workplace study, and yet women’s growth in executive roles has remained largely stagnant.   The Life Science Industry has always struggled to attract and retain women. The more senior you go in most businesses, the less women you see. That is why we created the Lift Up: Women in Life Sciences community to champion, inspire, and connect women across Life Sciences from the bench to the boardroom.   Join our special guest host and LinkedIn Top Voice, Andrew MacAskill, for an awe-inspiring event where we are raising the question: What role can men play in all of this?   Andrew will be joined by Richard Saynor (Chief Executive Officer at Sandoz), Daniel Griesser (VP HR Country Head Germany at GSK) and Dr. Andreas Raabe (Chief Executive Officer at Adragos Pharma) who all believe men have a vital role in championing, promoting and advocating women in the workplace. Our panel of executives all hold a proven track record of creating diverse leadership teams that drive high performance. What better way to investigate this topic by tapping into their expertise?   𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬:   👉 Creating a culture whereby the best candidates get the right leadership roles 👉 Does women’s progression result in the opposite for men? 👉 The fear of entering the DEI space and saying the wrong things. 👉 How diverse workforces create innovation and a competitive advantage.   So, whether you’re a woman looking to progress your career or a male ally for women in life sciences, please join us and have your say. The event will include a live Q&A, giving you the chance to engage directly with our experts! #LiftUp | #MaleAlly | #FraserDove

Question to the gentlemen: what's your take on the "double bind" that women leaders face - that we're often seen as too soft, but judged when assertive? Have you faced it? are you aware of it?

I think part of what Sandoz is doing which is not specifically addressed at women but has a big impact is: role modeling and encouraging a collaborative and human centric leadership. Speaking for myself: I am much more motivated to be a part of a LT who are actually behaving like a team of decent humans instead of the "old-school" machismo red behavior. We can likelier see ourselves at that table instead of the old one. I think I'm not alone in this.

Women need Sponsors who advocate for them :-) While Sponsorship is very common in mens world, it is not so common in women's world.

Should pharma companies consider recruiting from outside the industry to get that diverse and more confident workforce?

Provocative thought, whilst I see more flexibility happening at companies both for proud moms and dads, how do you actively address the gender pay gap? The moment women can afford good childcare and feel their children are really well taken care of - they more likely to jump. This is particularly true for middle management roles

I think it is essential to know a but about everyone's life, male and female. Taking a few mins to explore that in 1:1s builds so much in terms of insight and true connections

Question: How can male leaders in the pharmaceutical industry effectively support and promote female leadership, address inequities, and champion DEI initiatives in a way that is genuine and collaborative, without coming across as paternalistic or patronising?

One significant issue is that women who could be the best candidates don't apply for jobs because they don't tick all the boxes (fearing rejection again) and job profiles often using quite masculine language which further puts them off.
