🌟 **Federal vs. Public Sector HR: What's the Difference?** 🌟 When you hear "public sector HR," what often comes to mind? — because there are some important distinctions. Here's a quick breakdown in plain terms: 🛡️ **Federal HR:** Working in federal HR means you're part of the **U.S. government workforce**. This includes agencies like the Social Security Administration, Department of Defense, and more. It involves navigating: - **Strict rules and processes** like the Merit Systems Principles. - **Specialized hiring systems** such as USAJobs and Veterans' preference. - **National impact**, serving the entire country! 🏙️ **Public Sector HR:** Public sector HR, on the other hand, refers to **state or local government roles**—think city halls, school districts, or state departments. While it's still government work, it often includes: - **More localized focus**, serving specific communities. - **Varying rules** based on state or municipal laws. - Sometimes more flexibility compared to federal roles. ✨ **Both paths share a mission to serve the public** but operate under different systems and scopes. Have you worked in federal or public sector HR? What differences have you noticed? #HumanResources #FederalHR #PublicSectorHR #CareerInsights

We find HR Leadership has become just as specialized as other industry executives. Oregon Health & Science University is using remote work to get to the people they need. Our team follows the trends and welcomes your insights! #hiringtrends #remotework #flexiblework #recruiting #humanresources
Willamette Week asked our Senior Recruiter in Human Resources, Cory Mlady, to share his insights as to why Oregon Health & Science University's Executive VP and Chief People Officer, Qiana Williams, sought HR talent outside of Portland. "[Cory] recalls seeing postings from OHSU that emphasized union experience, which can be hard to come by in Portland because the city has few large employers with unionized workforces, like OHSU’s. 'It’s a pretty small pool of people that practice in a union environment,' Mlady says." Read more about how OHSU is challenging the nationwide back-to-office trend with 70% of their top HR staff telecommuting from Ohio. ⤵ https://lnkd.in/gic_wau5 #hiringinsights #humanresources #hrcommunity #OHSU

Over the past few weeks we at DC Personnel have experienced a number of workers who have gone onto permanent roles get in touch with us for one reason or another, this is not unheard of course. Some temporary workers are with us on the journey towards being offered a permanent job, that’s the goal anyway and during this time we give many touch points, proactive updates, reminders and so on to our staff. By regularly giving this level of communication to our workforce they become more engaged with us building a positive relationship and get a sense of routine you could say. For example we had a worker report an absence to us only this week when he had already gone permanent a week ago. Another worker explained to us a sense of loss since going permanent because our supportive network was no longer part of her working day. This can only be a testament to our approach and service our team provide. In a heavily congested recruitment market we try and pride ourselves on a level of service and commitment to our workforce. After all said and done isn’t this what us recruiters should be judged on. #observations #weeklyreflection #engagement

Things are finally looking up for the state and local government workforce. Since the pandemic, the public sector has faced an uphill climb to return to pre-pandemic employment levels after the private sector bounced back a year before government did. Plus, human resources managers raised alarms last year about high turnover rates, disrupting governments' progress. But now, it seems state and local governments' efforts to recruit and retain staff are actually paying off. According to a report released last week by the MissionSquare Research Institute, HR managers reported that they are filling vacancies in several key government occupations, such as transportation and transit, and building permitting and inspections. The share of governments reporting difficulty in hiring across these essential occupations decreased by at least 10 percentage points since 2022. Learn how governments are attracting and retaining employees by leveraging social media, promoting job benefits and advertising the value of government service delivery:

Organisations may find that, in line with the job retention scheme coming to an end and due to the overall impact the pandemic has had, there is a need to review their services and staffing requirements. These reviews can often lead to redundancy situations, however, there is a statutory obligation for employers to avoid redundancies wherever possible. Employers should be able to demonstrate how they have considered the options available to them and document the outcomes. To help employers during the process, we have created a simple checklist which will help fulfil these obligations and includes actions for consideration If you require our free checklist just drop us an email at info@transforminghr.co.uk #Redundancy

The landscape of staffing has undergone significant shifts in recent times, particularly in Australia, where various sectors are grappling with a shortage of skilled employees, notably in the support worker sector. Over the years, the number of support workers has dwindled for two primary reasons. Firstly, quality support workers are increasingly choosing to remain in roles where they feel valued and appreciated for their contributions. Secondly, there is a lack of awareness about how to find support worker roles that offer the necessary support, fulfilment, and recognition required for these demanding positions. The aged care and disability care industry has been experiencing a shortage of workers, impacting providers' ability to adequately cater to the diverse needs of participants. However, navigating staffing challenges can be impacted by this or it can be easy, a task that is welcomed in your business. By leveraging the services of a staffing solutions agency, businesses can seamlessly integrate support into their rostering systems, alleviating the headaches associated with workforce management. Whether you're seeking to enhance your staffing practices or require assistance with rostering, our team at CONEXSON is here to support you every step of the way! #agedcare #supportworker #disabilitycare #recruiter
