It is fundamental that we teach children how to support their minds with meditation, in the same way we want them to brush their teeth to be physically healthy. Great article featuring George Mumford and how athletes use meditation. Recently, someone told me, "Meditation is hard." Unmanaged stress and performance anxiety are harder Breathwork is an easy step into meditation. When athletes (and business professionals) embrace meditation, they share experiences like: - "The calm meditation is great." - "I feel like my meditation practice is now a mandatory part of my game." - "The breathing strategy is gold." I am in awe of their willingness to try something new. I did not adopt a meditation practice until 2021. How did my stress manifest? Repeated sinus infections and back pain. Today, I look forward to my moments of peace and calm. Like many of my athletes who meditate before a big competition, I meditate an hour or so before an in person speaking engagement or virtual presentation. The beauty of meditation is that it's a no-judgment zone. If your mind wanders, invite it back. If meditation feels hard, start small. Focus on your inhale and exhale for one minute. Master that, then add a minute, and so on. Or embrace guided meditations.
