As we celebrate National Disability Independence Day, it's essential to recognize the importance of inclusion in the workplace. People with disabilities are chronically excluded for the labor market, often because of persistent stereotypes and misconceptions about their capabilities. Inclusion isn’t just about hiring; it’s about creating an environment where everyone can thrive. The Australian Disability Network has launched a campaign called "Choose Inclusion" to promote inclusive workplaces and raise awareness about the social model of disability ahead of the International Day of People with Disability on December 3. The campaign includes a short film featuring comedians and disability advocates, free resources, and a social media call-out. The film, created by Taste Creative and funded by the Department of Social Services, aims to challenge misconceptions about disability and encourage organizations to take simple steps to create inclusive workplaces. The campaign also emphasizes the importance of authentic representation and equal opportunities for individuals with lived experience of disability.
