As the R&D Innovation Lead CEE at Haleon this time representing the corporate world, I had the privilege of joining an incredible panel at the Deep Tech CEE Summit & Challenge alongside Katarzyna Wszola (Veolia Poland), Jakub Przybylski (ABB), Marcin Ratkiewicz (Orange) and with Renita Kalhorn as a skilled moderator. Together, we dove deep into the most transformative sectors reshaping deep tech in our region. While CEE region holds uncovered potential to drive global innovation, with a wealth of talent and innovative ideas, it still requires comprehensive strategies, enhanced corporate-startup collaboration, and a long-term vision that extends beyond regional borders. Here are some key takeaways from discussion: 🚀 Corporate-Startup Partnerships are Catalysts for Innovation Startups are agile drivers of breakthrough innovation. Corporations provide not only funding opportunities but also co-development ecosystems. By combining startup agility with corporate resources, we’re able to bring ideas to market faster and with reduced risk—ultimately amplifying the impact beyond what either party could achieve alone. 🚀 Corporations are Enablers of Scale and Regulatory Navigation Corporations play a pivotal role in helping startups scale, internationalize and navigate in the complex regulatory environment of health and biotech. In an industry where compliance is non-negotiable, startups often lack the bandwidth to fully address these demands. This is where corporates step in: by sharing regulatory expertise, guiding compliance from early stages, and leveraging established networks for market access, empower startups to enter new territories with confidence. It’s about creating a partnership framework where startups benefit from corporate experience and scale without losing their innovative edge. 🚀 Anticipating the Next Wave of Deep Tech Trends Looking ahead, AI-driven predictive health models, advanced personalization, and sustainable manufacturing are set to redefine the future of consumer health. Quantum computing—though still emerging—has the potential to accelerate molecular and biochemical research, unlocking insights that could significantly enhance product development cycles. Corporations should consider quantum-enhanced capabilities now to stay ahead as these technologies mature. For the CEE region, this could mean change from regional players to global pioneers in predictive health and sustainability.
