The High Line is first and foremost a people-powered park. This month, it was our privilege to wrap up our 2024 volunteer season with a celebration of this season's cohort of High Line volunteers! Joining us from every end of New York City (and even beyond), our dedicated volunteers have been the engine that keeps the High Line thriving since the beginning. We couldn’t keep this public space so vibrant without the folks who share their time, expertise, talent, and energy with our park-goers. To all our phenomenal volunteers—thank you for keeping the magic of the High Line alive! ✨ Want to be a part of this dynamic group of leaders? "Hi, I'm Mike and I'm a serial board member...But there could be a break in service soon." I just realized that for the first time in nearly 20 years, this September, I'll term off the only board in which I currently serve (as chair) with no immediate future board requests or commitments in sight. If I've not been on multiple boards over the past 2 decades, I've always had one overlapping with another. Why have I done that and why is my head empty of opportunities today? While the majority of the boards and committees I've served on have been with nonprofits attempting to make positive impact on complex issues that have no real boundaries, their service areas have, making them central to the community in which I lived. Serving in leadership roles with organizations like Leadership Rhode Island, The Avenue Concept, Rhode Island Historical Society, Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England, Veterans Memorial Auditorium Foundation, and the Center for Living & Working were opportunities to contribute my strategic thinking strengths to a place. Now, that I'm physically moving from Rhode Island to DC, shall I serve the place? More recently, and for the past 12 years, national level issues around the military and veterans, though not exclusively, got much of my attention through service to Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve (ESGR) and, currently, The Overwatch Project | FORGE . I have enjoyed the national level impact and the challenge of putting my strategic thinking and influencing strengths to the test at a much different scale around issues that matter to our nation at large and to me personally. In a nod to Simon Sinek, I think I'm going to spend less time focused on the "what" and more on the "why" of my past board service to identify my future public service. One selfish "why" for me has been reinforced by my knowledge of Gallup research that has identified COMMUNITY as one of the Five Essential Elements of Well-Being. Turns out, service is good for me... and good for you. Shall I consider community my physical locale or the connectivity with others who share similar values? Can I find both in our nation's capital? #boardleadership #boardservice #boardmember #community #wellbeing #serialboardmember #fiveessentialelements #publicservice #servantleadership #fulfillment #simonsinek

IF YOU ARE NOT PART OF A PERMANENT AND LASTING SOLUTION TO THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRISIS AND HOMELESSNESS, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM! THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX IS BROKEN AND NOT WORKING FOR AMERICAN TAXPAYERS Veteran Housing Corp would ask every TAXPAYER to demand and get answers from their elected and appointed government officials the below questions as they relate to any affordable, workforce, or supportive housing project in your community! 1. How much local, state, and federal funding, tax credits, or other government benefits or incentives did the project receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project? Is the affordability period permanent and in perpetuity? 3. What guarantees exist have your local, state, and federal government officials obtained in writing that rents will not go up or that tenants will not be displaced or evicted after the "affordability period expires? Every local, state, and federal housing authority and affordable or workforce housing stakeholder should adopt the State of Vermont's "permanent affordability" policy as a model for all future government funded or subsidized housing projects or developments, no exceptions! https://lnkd.in/eFEUC8c8 Additionally, local, state and federal housing agencies should look to the Helsinki, FINLAND MODEL of ending homelessness by providing affordable housing for all 'It’s a miracle': Helsinki's radical solution to homelessness https://lnkd.in/er9HZSQU Even the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development AGREES THAT adopting FINLAND'S MODEL OF ERADICATING HOMELESSNESS may be of great value to resolving the affordable housing and homelessness crises in America https://lnkd.in/gkSZWYRU

Eric Dickson, MD thanks for being a leader who recognizes the importance of practing #futurefocusedleadership principles. As the healthcare delivery rapidly changes, leaders must take a proactive approach that encompasses anticipating trends while developing longterm strategies that will enhance patient outcomes and system efficiency. #UMassMemorialMedicalCenter’s #HospitalatHome program is a perfect example of the incorporation/practice of future-focused leadership theory. It helps to prioritize population health management through data analytics and the adaptation of policy changes to improve patient outcomes. #UMass #leadership #improvedhealthcaredelivery #patientoutcomes #futurefocusedleadership #healthcareneeds #Drericdickson
It's up to us to provide Future-Focused Leadership as we care for those in our community.
