Understanding CBAM: CBAM aims to level the playing field by imposing a carbon price on imports from countries with less stringent climate policies. This ensures that domestic businesses committed to reducing their carbon footprint are not disadvantaged by cheaper, high-carbon imports.

Nice piece on CBAM, including this: "Taiwan passed into law a carbon fee that is meant to capture a significant chunk of the revenue that exporters would otherwise pay the EU." That is the crux of why the 'Brussels effect' should work so well with CBAM. It provides a great economic incentive to keep the money at home. So we get an international carbon price in the end. One which we've long needed but, in the basence of a world government, was never likely to come. #cbam #climatelaw #carbonpricing
The rise in interest in border carbon adjustment (BCA) can be traced to increasingly impactful state-level efforts to address climate change. The EU's pioneering Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is the beginning of new policies to come. Amid hopes CBAM could help push industries across the world to cut carbon emissions, Aaron Cosbey explores the potential impact for Knowable Magazine.
