【Showcasing Hong Kong’s Determination to Build a Robust Sustainability Disclosure Ecosystem in Geneva】 The highlight of Secretary Christopher Hui’s visit to Switzerland was his participation in the 41st session of the Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR) organised by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva. During the session, Secretary Hui outlined Hong Kong's commitment and progress in developing a comprehensive sustainability disclosure ecosystem. He emphasised that, through policy direction, appropriate incentives, and the cultivation of professional talent, Hong Kong is creating the first sustainable development reporting framework among international financial centres that aligns with global standards. On the topic of the session "Sustainability reporting frameworks and standards: from interoperability to full harmonization", Secretary Hui elaborated on the HKSAR Government’s vision and concrete actions. He stated: "Our determination to align local sustainability reporting standards with the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) is crystal clear. Hong Kong is committed to establishing a comprehensive sustainability disclosure system, enabling companies to report with high transparency according to international standards. This will consolidate our competitive edge in the global supply chain, attract capital to environmentally responsible projects, and contribute to global sustainable development." He further mentioned that the vision statement issued by the Hong Kong Government in March of this year outlined the direction for the development of sustainability reporting, with plans to release a roadmap within the year to provide companies with a clear path forward. Secretary Hui also engaged in in-depth discussions with Sue Lloyd, Vice-Chair of the ISSB, exchanging views on how to establish unified cross-sector sustainability reporting standards for listed companies and financial institutions. In addition, Secretary Hui met with Jean-Marie Paugam, Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organzation (WTO), where they discussed the latest trends in financial services trade. He also had a meeting with Edouard Cuendet, Director of the Geneva Financial Center, to explore opportunities for financial collaboration between the two regions. Earlier in Zurich, Secretary Hui discussed important topics related to maintaining the stability of financial centres amid global economic uncertainty and challenges with August Benz, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Head of Private Banking and Asset Management of the Swiss Bankers Association. This further deepened financial cooperation between Hong Kong and Switzerland.
