I meant to be posting much more often to continue my trip down memory lane and all the great people I worked with at Virtual World, FASA Interactive, Microsoft, Wizkids, 42 Entertainment, Smith & Tinker, Edoc Laundry, Harebrained Schemes, etc - but chasing my wife around the world and preparing for the Sea of Legends Kickstarter has waylaid those posts until a future date. Which brings me to today's news!  I am excited to announce that today we launched our Kickstarter campaign for Sea of Legends, an Open World, Deck Building Pirate CRPG based upon the highly successful board game series that my son Zach and his friend Ryan Schapals created. Zach is also working with us on the video game :) Much like the board game, the video game offers an open-world experience where you can maraud across the fantasy imbued Caribbean, seek treasure, forge alliances, and even find love—whether it's true love, fleeting love, or maybe multiple loves! After all, you’re a pirate, and there are no rules! Combat centers around intense crew-on-crew battles, combining the tactical depth seen in my previous games (Shadowrun Returns, Battletech, etc) with innovative deck-building mechanics. This is the first big game from our new start-up Endless Adventures Incorporated. For the last two years we have been working on a no-code video game authoring and distribution platform which we will now use to create Sea of Legends. In addition to making the development of the game faster and less expensive, it will also mean that Sea of Legends will likely be the first 100% no-code moddable game. 🌟 Achievement Unlocked: Completed My First Speed Game Jam! 🌟 I’m thrilled to share that I successfully completed the 5th SpeedJam, a 72-hour game jam focused on creating games that can be speedrun. This was my first time participating in a game jam, and it was an incredible learning experience. 🚀 What I Learned: Mastered 2D platforming character controls Integrated online leaderboards using LootLocker Despite being nervous about the tight timeframe, I managed to finish my game and had a lot of fun along the way. This experience has not only improved my technical skills but also boosted my confidence in game development. 🎮 I look forward to applying these new skills in future projects and continuing my journey in the game development world. There's this particular feature on Opay called “Play 4 A Child”... It basically has you playing a game (Ludo), and trying to win starts, in order for those stars to be converted into donations for the Children. The amount of stars you win, depends on the amount of stars you bet with… Meaning, if you bet with 5 stars and you lose, your opponent gets the 5 stars, and yours is deducted… Vice versa. I've always been a board game enthusiast, and Ludo has always been one of my favorites… But whenever I play the game, I tell myself “It's 50/50, so let me bet with the lowest number of stars” (3 Stars), and most times when I do that, I end up losing… UNTIL… One day, I told myself “I'm going to play this game, risk 10 stars instead of 3, and win it!”... Lo and behold, I tried a different strategy, and I actually won! Now where am I driving at?... I want you to take note of three lessons from what I just told you: The Power of Self-belief The Power of Taking Risks The Power of Exploring One thing about your mind is, it will always believe whatever you feed it… From the moment I made myself visualize winning, I won, because I was confident and believed nothing could stop me from winning… Learn from that. When you choose to remain in your comfort zone, you'd only get things within your comfort. And when you decide to reach out for the extraordinary, you'd receive extraordinary things… Take risks and step out of your comfort zone. You also need to try different methods, because you can't say nothing is working when you haven't tried every method… Learn to try different strategies, that different method you decide to use might end up becoming what helps. I hope you learnt something? 💞

Last Friday, the Lhtako Quesnel 2024 BC Winter Games Society announced that approximately $200,000 in legacy funds has been awarded to three initiatives that will benefit the community for years to come. 📰 https://lnkd.in/gawdeXBw Legacy funds come from the generosity of the business community in supporting the Games with cash and in-kind contributions, merchandise sales, and the sound financial management of the volunteers who led the Games. The funding is in addition to funds provided through the Powering Potential Fund, which supported a number of local projects before the Games, including the biathlon range at Hallis Lake and the slopestyle course at Troll Mountain.
